Proposed Charter School Would Serve All Counties

International Charter School hosting town hall on Tuesday.

A proposed charter school in Forsyth County that would be open to all children in the state is hosting a Town Hall to introduce itself to the community on Tuesday.

Following the November election in which voters approved an amendment giving the state the power to approve charter schools, a group of parents and educators have filed an intent to launch the International Charter School of Atlanta.

The group says that the school would be the first and only triple-language immersion K through 8th grade school open to all children in Georgia.

"We've had way more intents to apply than expected," so far, said Christina Crumbley, one of the school's board members. She said the school has seen 160 intents and "we haven't even held our first town hall."

The school's board members have scouted a location in Forsyth and plan to have the school operating in August.

“By having a public school focused on developing bilingual/trilingual students with an international perspective will only further the economic growth of Atlanta and the state,” said Marisa Kashapov, one of ICSAtlanta’s founding board members, in a press release. “The investment which comes from county taxes for public schools, which will in turn go towards this new international charter school, will both equip our children with a competitive advantage as well as provide a cutting-edge future workforce for the state.”

The town hall will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at Fowler Park's recreation center, 4110 Carolene Way, near the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Castleberry Road in Cumming.
