UPDATE: Etowah Students Performed Sex Act in Cafeteria

Two Cherokee County School District students have been charged with misdemeanor public indecency following an incident that occurred last week.

The Cherokee County School District plans to discipline Etowah High School students who allegedly were involved in a sex act that occurred last week.

Two juvenile students have been charged with misdemeanor public indecency following an incident that occurred on Thursday, Oct. 10, District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said.

A female student allegedly "made a sexual offer to a male classmate during lunch," Jacoby said.

"The male classmate later told administrators that he thought this offer was a joke, but when the female student began to act upon it, the male student said he stopped her," Jacoby added.

Jacoby said the students who were sitting at the same table were able to shield other students and staff members from seeing what happened.

Additionally, Jacoby said two other students said they recorded part of the incident on their mobile phones, but "deleted the videos when they realized that they might face charges."

"There is no evidence any video was distributed," she added.

Jacoby reiterated to Patch that appropriate disciplinary actions will take place for every student involved. Specifics on the disciplinary actions will not be disclosed due to student privacy laws, she added.
