River Ridge Students Will Take Children Christmas Shopping

The students at the high school in Woodstock have raised $3,000 to take less fortunate children Christmas shopping on Saturday.

Students at Cherokee County's newest high school are thinking of their younger counterparts who may not have a chance to experience a merry Christmas.

River Ridge High School's Student Advisory Board and Crusading Knights Service Club have joined forces to help 22 students in the school's innovation zone have a brighter holiday.

This semester, the students were able to raise $3,000 to help students from Arnold Mill, Johnston and Little River elementary schools shop for Christmas gifts for themselves and their family members.

Each child will be given $100 to purchase gifts for their parents or siblings and $25 to get themselves something.

The students will perform this charity on Saturday. The day will begin with breakfast and games with Santa's helpers at River Ridge. The group will then make their way to Walmart for the children to shop for gifts, and return to the school for lunch sponsored by Chick-Fil-A, gift wrapping and a holiday craft activity, said River Ridge counselor Jeff Bennett.

The students could even have a visit from Santa Claus, who will take photos and read the classic "Twas the Night Before Christmas" story.

"This is the first year for such a program at River Ridge but it will not be the last, as it will continue the tradition already started within our community of giving back to those in need and encouraging the importance of education within our zone," Bennett added.
