SACS Won't Take Action on Marlow Letter "At This Time"

SACS will not take action on a request written by District 1 School Board Member Kelly Marlow to investigate the Cherokee school board.

The accrediting agency in which District 1 School Board Member Kelly Marlow asked to investigate the Cherokee County School Board will not take any action on Marlow's request "at this time," according to its spokesperson.

Jennifer Oliver with AdvancED said Marlow's complain has been reviewed and "no action has been taken at this time and we are monitoring the situation" in the Cherokee County School District.

AdvancED is the company that oversees the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, or SACS CASI.

Marlow last month wrote AdvancED, calling for a "formal investigation into the conduct of our board and of our professional staff."

Her decision to contact the agency propelled the board on Thursday to unanimously vote to hold an hearing to determine Marlow violated the board's ethics. That hearing date will be determined in the coming weeks.

The Cherokee County School District was recommended for re-accreditation by the body in November 2011, which was approved in January 2012.
