“I do believe being selected as Teacher of the Year for Woodstock High School and then Teacher of the Year for Cherokee County has brought additional recognition to my role as a teacher in both my school and my community. It is such an honor, and it has made me very humble to represent all the great teachers that work in our school system,” Webb said.

As a social studies teacher, Webb has garnered other awards throughout her career. She has been STAR teacher for WHS in 2006 and was also STAR teacher for the county that year. She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Month at WHS and at all previous schools where she has taught.

Other awards provided great learning experiences for this history buff.  She was selected to attend the Gilder Lehrman Summer Institute at Columbia University in 2009, the World Affairs Council on Africa Seminar in Washington, D.C. the summer of 2006 and the National Holocaust Museum Teacher Training Workshop in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 1997.

As Cherokee County Teacher of the Year, Webb will be invited by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators to participate in leadership training workshops.

As the county representative, Webb continues on in competition with all other school systems’  Teachers of the Year throughout the state of Georgia. In February, 10 statewide finalists will be announced and in May, the state will announce the Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Webb grew up in Alpharetta and is a graduate of Milton High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University and her master’s degree from the University of Alabama. She also earned a specialist’s degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee and is currently working on her doctorate in education from Liberty University in Virginia.

Her favorite subject when she attended school was history; in fact, her favorite book selection also has a historical theme.

“I love to read," Webb shared. "I suppose my favorite book of all time is Gone With the Wind."

Teaching high school provides a lot of comic relief. Webb said there are many funny situations that arise everyday in a high school setting. She shared some of her most memorable moments.

“I end my AP World History class every year by holding a mock trial. The trial is always funny because the prosecutors are aliens and sometimes students will dress up as aliens to portray that part. One year I had a very military-minded student play the role of Gandhi. One year I had a student portray me with all my little quirky mannerisms. It is a great learning experience and funny at the same time.”

Webb said she is exceptionally proud to represent a school district that she thinks so highly of.

“I believe we are one of the top school systems in the state of Georgia. Our focus is on providing the best education possible for the children of Cherokee County, and I believe we will only continue to grow in that direction. The teachers, administrators and support staff are dedicated to that goal each and every day.”
