Woodstock Art Teacher Wins National Award

Pam Morgan was recognized at the National Art Education Association Conference for her service as the Georgia Youth Art Month coordinator.

A teacher received national recognition in New York City for her service and dedication to her students.

Pam Morgan, art teacher, was presented with an Award of Excellence at the National Art Education Association Conference in honor of her service as the Georgia Youth Art Month (YAM) coordinator.

“I was absolutely amazed and impressed at her level of service, dedication, and commitment to your students,” Kris Bakke, President of the Board of Directors for the Council for Art Education, said of Morgan. “It is unreal how much time it takes to put together a program just at one school, but to coordinate with others and unite the entire state in this event is outstanding. Please congratulate her on a job well done. My full-time job is to serve art teachers, and in my experience, Pam is truly top notch.”

Woodstock Elementary students participated in "Art Shapes the eARTh" as part of YAM in Georgia.

“The idea of this theme was to use art to support, acknowledge, fundraise and raise awareness for a cause,” Morgan said at the YAM Honor Club Breakfast.

Other projects that the students worked on include: Pinwheels for Peace project, for which all students created a pinwheel and “planted” it outside; students created and sold ornaments to raise money for Relay for Life; and students created artwork for cards to promote RAB, Remember Alex Brown, and the DNT TXT N DRV (Don’t Text and Drive) campaign. All of these were presented to the , all of the shops in Downtown Woodstock, Woodstock Elementary School staff and the .
