Woodstock Elementary is One of State's Highest Performing Schools

Woodstock Elementary School has been lauded for its academic performance.

The school for the second year in a row has been named a Georgia 2013 Reward School - Highest Performing School by the Georgia Department of Education. 

The designation recognizes the school for placing among the top 5 percent of Title I schools across the state that have the highest performance on statewide assessments in the past three years. 

Title I schools have a higher percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.

It's the second year Woodstock has received the recognition from the state agency. Earlier this year, it was also one of four schools across the state that was given the 2013 Georgia Family Friendly Partnership School Award from the department. 

Winners were chosen based on criteria such as student/parent engagement, staff friendliness and community partnerships. 

"Woodstock Elementary School’s entire staff is applauded for their efforts that led to this Reward School recognition… despite the challenges these at-risk students face, their teachers are assisting them in achieving outstanding academic success," Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo said, noting the honor goes hand-in-hand with the recent Family Friendly Partnership School Award. "The Woodstock community is working together to ensure that every child succeeds."
