Woodstock Schools Earn Title 1 Honors

Two Woodstock schools made the Georgia Title I Distinguished Schools list.  and schools were both given this designation for 2011.

A total of 824 Georgia schools and four districts earned the honor because of their success with their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three or more consecutive years, according to a Georgia Department of Education news release. 

"These schools are showing that high expectations, coupled with effective educators in the building, produce outstanding student achievement," said State School Superintendent John Barge. "I'm very pleased to recognize the educators, students and parents in these schools and school districts." 

Boston Elementary excels with 10 consecutive years of making AYP and eight years as a Distinguished School, and Woodstock Elementary is not far behind with eight consecutive years of making AYP and six years as a Distinguished School.

Title I schools have significant populations of students who are economically disadvantaged, and the schools that make AYP for 10 or more years receive federal money to assist with the education of their students. Boston Elementary was given $1,530.

“We are extremely proud of the students, teachers and parents at our Title I schools and the remarkable level of student success they have achieved,” said Frank R. Petruzielo, Cherokee County superintendent of schools. “These children face significant economic disadvantages; yet, by working hard and making their education a priority, they truly have a bright future ahead of them.”

R.M. Moore Elementary and schools were also disgnated as Title 1 Distinguished Schools.
