Albertson Fell in Second Round

Anders Albertson starts his freshman year at Georgia Tech.

When one shot can kill an entire round, momentum is a tough thing to keep it in golf. Weather delays can make it almost possible.

After Anders Albertson made back-to-back pars to start his second round of the U.S. Amateur on the back nine, threatening thunderstorms forced a suspension of play for more than three hours.

“I struggled to get a whole lot of momentum going,” Albertson said. “I didn’t get a whole lot of putts to fall. When I gave myself chances, I didn’t convert.”

Albertson would bogey the 488-yard, par-4 12th hole on his way to one-over 71 at Blue Mound Country Club in Wauwatosa, WI. Albertson finished the U.S. Amateur at 8-over, failing to make the cut for the match play portion of the championship.

The tough weather conditions didn’t make the course play any easier. Albertson said the wind made it tough on his approach shots to Blue Mound’s undulating greens.

“They tucked the pins pretty hard,” Albertson said. “It never seemed like you had a flat putt, you were always putting on a slope.”

Although Albertson’s U.S. Amateur comes to an end, golf is only starting for the freshman at Georgia Tech. After flying back home, qualifying for Georgia Tech’s first fall golf tournament starts on Friday.

Classes started on Monday so he’ll also be playing catchup on his school work.

But Albertson said his U.S. Amateur experience was a good one, especially since he was joined in the tournament by teammates James White, Seth Reeves and Paul Haley.

“I know quite a few people, and it’s nice to play practice rounds with them and have some fun while we’re here," Albertson said.
