Cherokee Students Tee Off In District Golf Championships

The boys and girls' teams from Etowah both placed first overall at the tournament, which was held at the Fairways of Canton golf course.

The Cherokee County School District last week held its inaugural Golf Championships in Canton.

The district held preliminary rounds on Monday and Tuesday, and the top three teams from the first around advanced to the final round on Thursday, March 27.

The tournament was held at the Fairways of Canton golf course.

The overall champion for the boys was Creekview High School student Brady Keran.
Fellow Creekview student Kip Denison came in second and Jake Haggerty of Etowah High School placed third.

The Etowah boys team placed first, followed by Creekview as second and Woodstock High School for third.

On the girls side, the overall champion was Etowah student Melanie Talbott. She was followed by fellow Etowah student Tyler Dawson for second and Woodstock student Madison Blackburn for third.

The Etowah girls team claimed first place as a team, followed by Woodstock in second place and Creekview as third.

Before Thursday's final round got underway, School Board Chair Janet Read provided golfers with words of inspiration and good luck.

The Fairways of Canton and its Golf Pro Drew Atkinson and Tournament Director David Wynn hosted the event, which is part of the district's partnership agreement with the facility.
