Etowah Edges Woodstock in Directors Cup

Each year the Regions Bank Directors Cup is given to the top performing high school athletic department in each classification.

The Regions Bank Directors Cup is presented by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association to recognize the top athletic departments in the Georgia High School Association. Points are accumulated throughout each school year to determine the best programs in the state by classification, gender and region.

Points are tallied from each school’s top eight scoring sports among the 25 sanctioned GHSA sports in which each school participates. Each school that wins will receive a Regions Directors Cup trophy and wall banner.

The AAAAA top five is as follows:

  1. Brookwood – 1220.5
  2. Walton – 1058.5
  3. Mill Creek – 1039.0
  4. Harrison – 1010.5
  5. Lassiter – 996.5

finished in 26th place while placed 31st.

Etowah’s boys’ teams scored 245.50 points on the strength of 53 points from tennis, 41 from wrestling, 40 from swimming, 35 from track, 26.50 from lacrosse, 25 from football and 25 from baseball. The Lady Eagles scored 285 points, coming from swimming (85), basketball (53), lacrosse (26.50), cheerleading (25.50), softball (25), volleyball (25), tennis (25), soccer (25) and track (21).

Woodstock got 197 points from its boys’ teams. The boys earned 72 points from cross country, 38 from swimming, 35 from lacrosse, 27 from track and 25 from football. The Lady Wolverines scored 189 points from swimming (51), cross country (38), volleyball (25), basketball (25), tennis (25) and soccer (25).

accumulated 78 points in the AA competition, all coming from girls sports. River Ridge scored 53 points in soccer and 25 in basketball.
