Hobgood Heat Wins State Championship

The team now heads to the Dizzy Dean World Series.

A Woodstock little league baseball team is getting recognition across the state for its stellar performance. 

The 7U Hobgood Heat All-Star team won the Georgia Dizzy Dean State Champions.

The Heat beat the 7U Kennesaw Generals Blue 23-15 in the state championship game on July 12. The Heat finished the 22 team tournament with a 5-0 record and outscored their opponents 79-28 on their way to claiming the state championship.

For the second consecutive year, the Heat made a clean sweep of the District 3 and state championships. The team is now playing in the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Mississippi, which started today. The Heat will be entering the World Series with a 37-2 record.

The Heat and other teams will have three pool play games throughout the weekend and then will be sorted into brackets on Monday. 

Hobgood Heat team members include Bryce Bessho, Zac Calabrese, Carter Gilliam, Jack Hartman, Evan Holstein, Caleb Hughes, Brooks McKenna, Joe Nevle, Logan Stradley, Jack Strickland, Jake Zehner, and Cody Cason (Alternate). Coaching Staff includes: Nick Bessho, Head Coach; Matt McKenna, Assistant Coach; Mark Nevle, Assistant Coach; Todd Holstein, Assistant Coach; and Dave Zehner, Assistant Coach.
