Weekend Roundup: Eagles Prepare for Playoffs

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch.

Etowah 17, Lassiter 14 – In true nail-biter fashion, needed a goalline stop at its 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal late in the game to hold onto a 3-point victory Thursday over Lassiter, according to the Cherokee Tribune.

The win settled matters cleanly in Region 5-AAAAA play. Lassiter finished at 3-3 and will enter the playoffs with the No. 4 seed from the region. Etowah finished at 4-2 and earned the No. 3 seed. ()

River Ridge 48, North Murray 34 – The running game has been a strong point for all season, and Friday’s game was no exception as sophomore E.J. Ellis carried the ball 20 times for 252 yards and six touchdowns, according to the Cherokee Tribune.

Ellis wasn’t the only star that carried that  ball. Austin Terrell notched 185 yards on the ground and Steven Spears, River Ridge’s quarterback, ran for 48 yards and a score.

Walton 30, Woodstock 0 – Walton scored four touchdowns in the first half, according to the Cherokee Tribune, to jump out early over and win its tenth-straight game, finishing a perfect regular season.

The Wolverines lost their last five games of the season after winning their first Region 5-AAAAA contest, and finished with a losing record for the first time since 2006.

Walton enters the postseason as the region’s No. 1 seed and will host Milton next Friday. ()
