Woodstock Girls, Boys Run to 9th

All three Woodstock high schools finish in the top 20 in the state in cross country.

The cross-country teams pulled off matching ninth-place finishes at the AAAAA state meet Saturday in Carrollton, topping the results of the other Woodstock high schools.

, meanwhile, placed 15th among the AAAAA boys and 16th among the girls. At the Georgia High School Association’s AA level, boys finished 13th, and the girls were 17th.

For the Wolverines, the top finisher among the boys was Jared Richmond in 11th place, followed by Josh Stockton in 38th, JC Cornett in 62nd, Owen Bailey in 93rd and Marley Kreps in 108th. On the girls’ side, Morgan O’Toole led the way in 14th place, backed by Alexandra Melehan in 20th, Makensie Block in 41st, Keaton Wallace in 81st and Rachel Steppe in 96th, less than half a second ahead of teammate Meagan Anstett after a 5K run.

Running in the same race, the Etowah Lady Eagles’ got scoring results from Finley Billings in 18th, Portia Keene in 100th, Schyler Folsom in 111th, Rachel Hire in 113th and Jessica Bishop in 117th.

Etowah’s boys had no one in the top 40 but five in the top 111: Ross Gudger in 42nd, Justin Brown in 53rd, Forrest Burks in 77th, Jake Hildebrandt in 103rd and Phil Henderson in 111th.

For the Knights, success in the AA race came from Joe Mayes in 34th, Macaulay Vanhoose in 63rd, Tyler Butcher in 81st, Austen Fowler in 102nd and Nathan Trottier in 125th among the boys, while the girls relied on Kali Kimball in 64th, Darian Kent in 74th, Liza Jamison in 91st, Lauren Rusch in 99th and Frida Hooper Campos in 172nd.
