Police Explorers Receive Top Honors

Police Explorers travel to Gatlinburg, TN, to compete and bring home a first place finish as well as a good showing in other competitions.

The Woodstock Police Explorer Post 1609 competed at the 2012 Winterfest Conference held in Gatlinburg, TN on Saturday, Feb. 4. They competed in several events and won first place in the Accident Reconstruction competition.

The Woodstock Police Explorer Post 1609 joined more than 70 other Posts from all over the U.S. to compete at the 2012 Winterfest Conference. The 2012 Winterfest Conference, an annual event which allows Law Enforcement Explorer Posts to compete nationally in skills learned from their respective agency, is hosted by Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America and offers competitive events such as: Uniform Inspection, Accident Reconstruction, Felony Traffic Stops, Active Shooter, Warrant Services and others.

The Woodstock Police Explorer Post 1609 competed against 45 other Posts in the Accident Reconstruction competition and brought home first place.

They also placed 10th out of 50 teams in Active Shooter, 12th out of 35 teams in DUI Traffic Stop, and 4th (individual) in Shooting (air soft gun) out of 200 Explorer participants.

The Woodstock Police Explorer Post 1609 is an official program of the Boy Scouts of America/Learning for Life and is designed to teach young men and women, ages 14 to 20, what a career in law enforcement entails.

“I am very proud of these young men and women," said Officer Greg Stepp, an advisor for the Woodstock Police Explorer Post 1609. "They have done this on their own and they should be very proud of themselves.”
