When Oil & Vinegar Meet Ice Cream

As a premier ice cream caterer in Atlanta, The WOW! Factor of Atlanta is always looking for tasty toppings that our ice cream social guests can enjoy. The usual suspects range from candies, fruits, nuts and syrups. But recently we stumbled across something that made us look at ice cream toppings in a whole new light.

At Leaning Ladder Premium Olive Oil and Vinegars, an elegant shop, nestled in quaint downtown Woodstock, we were introduced to infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars that (hold onto your hats) make delicious ice cream toppings! Now that I have completely blown your minds I’d like to introduce to you some of the combinations that quickly became our favorites.

First we start out with our rich, premium vanilla ice cream, and then it’s just a matter of drizzling a small amount of many of the Leaning Ladders fabulous infused olive oils or infused balsamic vinegars to make the magic happen!

Espresso Balsamic - The rich taste of coffee blending with creamy vanilla ice cream is a classic. Close your eyes and let the taste transport you to a small café in Italy.

Cinnamon Pear Balsamic - Didn’t have time to bake a homemade cobbler today? No worries, this combined with vanilla ice cream is an instant dessert that will satisfy your comfort food craving.

Raspberry Balsamic - One of my personal favorites, as it combines the two wonderful contrasts of light fruity raspberry and rich ice cream. Top it with a few roasted walnuts and you really have a fancy dessert.

Blood Orange Olive Oil - I can sum this combination up in one iconic word Creamsicle! All you fans of the childhood ice cream truck treat will love being introduced to this grownup version that delivers the taste you remember.

Persian Lime Olive Oil & Coconut White Balsamic - Okay this is the more labor intensive combinations, if you can call it that. Mix 2 parts of olive oil to 1 part balsamic. You can either shake in a closed bottle or if you want to be fancy table side, you can add to a small glass or ramekin and swirl over the palm of your hand so that the heat from your hand helps emulsify the two before you drizzle over the ice cream. Any guesses as to the amazing flavor creation?  Anyone?? Key Lime Pie!  Finish with a sprinkle of crushed graham cracker and you have an awesome dessert.

Need more convincing to give it a try? Traditional ice cream syrups add at least 100 calories. When you top your ice cream with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar you are getting the extra flavor with no added fat and less than 5 extra calories. A drizzle of olive oil adds a few more calories and a smidge of added fat -but the good kind! Plus it’s all natural, no chemicals or fake tasting flavors.

We’re so excited about being able to offer Leaning Ladder Premium Olive Oils and Vinegars to our clients. We look forward to taking ice cream to yet another level!
