For the Troops

Military personnel will soon get a treat from Canton.

Ten thousand tea bags are headed from Cherokee County to overseas military personnel.

Chief Magistrate Court Judge James E. Drane III, Indigent Defense Director George "Buddy" Templeton and members of the Blue Ridge Bar Association raised donations to purchase 10,000 tea bags "for the enjoyment of our ... military," the Cherokee County Magistrate Court said in a press release.

The “Tea for Troops” arrived Friday at the Bells Ferry Bridgewater Community Center in Canton, which has served as the temporary location of the C offices.

Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club activities director Patricia Kenny, who coordinates military donations, will coordinate the shipment of the tea bags to troops.

Earlier this year, Templeton, Kenny and Drane collected 500 tennis balls and several boxes of bones and chew toys for overseas delivery to military service dogs and their handlers.
