Georgia is home to four species of venomous spiders, including the black widow. Patch file.
BeckBoo July 17, 2014 at 04:51 pm
"venomous" spiders, not poisonous... venom is injected, poison is ingested....sheesh.

We moved here 6yrs ago from Western NY, where the worst thing you can encounter is a blizzard.Read More Within a couple yards of my house we have had black & brown widows, copperheads and a few tornados have come within an uncomfortable distance. But I also have a wonderful house, large yard for my son, a creek very close by, great weather 9months out of the year & 3 hawks that visit our backyard several times a day, all of which would have cost double in NY. I really o love t here.

The only really scary thing in Georgia is the phrase "Bless his/her heart".
Open carry laws in some states provides more comfort for gun owners. But is Target's move an effort to protect everyone else?
David Montgomery July 8, 2014 at 10:08 pm
My biggest dilemma everyday is deciding which one to carry: my 9, 40 or 45.
David Brown July 9, 2014 at 07:20 am
David, my brother, please make sure you don't bring any of them into Target or Chipotle.=)
Dog Face July 11, 2014 at 04:35 pm
Well, making Target stores into "gun free zones" is having predictable results. Thugs nowRead More know that Target is a place to find plenty of unarmed victims, and customers are paying the price. http://www.wnd.com/2014/07/armed-robbers-shopping-for-victims-at-target/
Atlanta among “most discourteous” cities for driving near summer holidays. Patch file.

Sure is a relief to know I can now get off those surface streets. I was doing 90+ on them because IRead More was afraid I would otherwise be impeding traffic on the interstate.
Brent Seeger July 1, 2014 at 02:49 pm
This is really a dumb article.
Greg Wardlaw July 1, 2014 at 05:26 pm
There seems to be two extremes here. If I am in a 70 mph zone, I expect some drivers to be going 80Read More and I drive in the right hand lane. However, I have observed that the faster drivers sometimes don't give the slower drivers time to get over in the right lane. However, if you are impeding traffic for some time you need to get over in the right lane. Leave the policing to the police. I try to go with the flow "so to speak" as long as I do not exceed the speed limit by more than about 7 miles per hour. Slow and fast drivers are both being selfish at times. I don't want to hold anybody up but I do expect to be given time to get over in the slow lane. I do get irritated when someone is impeding traffic in the left lane too. There are a lot of people who have nobody to drive them too and they are doing the best they can. Driving is not a contest. Driving, a lot of the time, shows what kind of person is behind the wheel. I catch myself at times being someone I do not want to be. It is all about respect and I am guilty of being disrespectful at times too. I was surprised that Boston was high on the list. I have lived in Georgia all my life and I went on a business trip to Boston a few years ago and I was pleasantly surprised that I experienced some of the most respectful drivers I have ever been around. If traffic was congested people would motion and let you merge into traffic as if it was a natural thing. I was blown away. I have to say I had a very different attitude when I left than when I arrived. It was awesome. Everybody can do better. Sometimes I have to ask myself "How important is it to be right" or "How important is it to win" on the road. As I get older I realize winning is getting home safely.

Octo Slash June 22, 2014 at 09:24 am
Tons more kids get killed by cars hitting them than they do from burning up inside one. Why isn'tRead More anyone freaking over that? This happens, but it's not like there are a hundred thousand children cooking in cars every year.
PH June 23, 2014 at 01:03 am
Sorry, I never, EVER, left my child in my car. Never. I was and am a mom. My son is now 22 yo.Read More NO EXCUSE. I've never left a pet either, much less my child. Are these people sitting on their brains? Guess so.

Its a rough world out there and people forget. It looks like the Atlanta guy may have something moreRead More than meets the eye going on with his case. I certainly hope not but that's what the cops are hinting at. In the case of some of these people that go to bars or where ever and leave kids in cars they need to be dealt with harshly. However it seems like we have lost all ability in this country to make rational decisions case by case at every level of this government.

The point that everyone overlooks is that even without insurance or a means to pay for theRead More surgery.... both the surgery and the recovery would have been less expensive to the system if handled sooner, when the tumor was smaller, & the woman both younger and in better general health.. we should all be ashamed that it was allowed to progress to 28# and attach to 3 vital organs.
janh999 June 17, 2014 at 09:50 am
You're right MessalineApghar. Unfortunately she was unable to afford it back then either & no1Read More would help her. While I understand that we need to pay for medical care just like any other service, when some1 cant afford something like that what do you do but wait it out.
MessalineApghar June 27, 2014 at 09:10 am
@ Janh999 I Disagree. If she's a citizen or legal resident, unable to pay when they firstRead More suggested surgery, and they knew it would get worse (and more expensive and more dangerous surgically) she should have been taken care of anyway, even though she couldn't pay. Either public health services like medicare & medicaid, or the hospital should have comp'd it..same as a lawyer doing pro bono

K.C., you raise a valid point. Very rarely do Patch commenters answer the question posed in anRead More article. They invariably will bring up extraneous things. One person will say something not pertinent to the subject of an article that ruffles somebody else's feathers and before you know it, the thread goes off in a totally different direction than the author of the article intended.

I'm a GA native, born and bred, lifelong resident except for a few years in another Southern state.Read More I love Georgia. I don't think that contradicts with recognizing stress factors here. I cringe when folks from other regions come here and trash our state based on their perceptions or their personal experiences, but maybe we can learn from them and fix what's broken. They should be nicer and more civil with their complaints. That only makes natives defensive and puts up walls. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It does get awfully hot here for several months of the year, but our otherwise mild climate is a major attraction for people from cold climates, the North and Mid-West. GA has a lot to offer with it's mountains, coast, four distinct seasons, both rural and big city lifestyles, employment opportunities in metro Atlanta. We just have a lot of people wanting to live here in the ATL area, and more people create more problems. Better government and planning is a major factor in that. Politics, of course, affect policy and government action.

To clarify the clarification, both Hunt Archbold, Editor, Atlanta and Kristal Dixon local editorRead More for Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch (Ga) have been busy for 2 days deleting about 90+ posts on assorted Patch sites titled "Something else for you to bitch about" which took up some moronic comments of Bob and jMichael on the thread dealing with the Ga. license plates. Ms Dixon of course is a Black editor so that explains why she has no use for my posting a photo of the Confederate Naval Ensign I have in my yard. I will leave it for you to decide if there is any truth about not deleting any 'comments' on the threads, what is clear is that entire threads were deleted, put back by me, deleted, etc etc. Since it takes me about 30 seconds to post one and a couple of minutes for them to delete it probably they have given up this useless venture. I have had at least 13 screen names 'suspended' at least one by Hunt. It is a useless task as I just open another screen name. If you want info on both the AOL Patch and Hale Global Patch you can find it at: http://kennesawpatch.proboards.com/ and if you want to email Hale Global (new owner of Patch) you can do it via these email addresses, the first being that of Charles Hale the head of the operation: ch@haleglobal.com, bobby@haleglobal.com, ryan@haleglobal.com, john@haleglobal.com, media@haleglobal.com, CorpDev@haleglobal.com

The bats can't keep up. We started using Orkin to spray for mosquitos last year and for the firstRead More time in 15 years we could actually enjoy being outside in our own yard. It made a HUGE difference and now is so much better for the kids waiting at the bus stop, and workers painting or mowing, and me doing yardwork--I no longer have to spray chemicals on ME. Val Walker Myers May 22, 2014 at 11:48 am
