The group’s National Council on Thursday reportedly gave the go-ahead to allow openly gay boys into its ranks. Tell us what you think of the decision.

A boy’s sexual orientation may soon be moot when he goes to join one national organization. According to reports Thursday evening, the Boy Scouts of America voted to drop sexual orientation as one component of membership into the youth group. While the organization’s decision paved the way for openly gay boys to become Scouts, the group’s leadership stopped short of allowing gay Scout leaders. Want to blog about this topic? Email Community Editor Liz Kennedy to find out how you can become a Local Voices blogger on your hometown Patch. Not all Scout troops may be receptive to the change. In previous discussions over the issue, BSA spokesman Deron Smith said that under the then-proposed change, the BSA would not dictate a position to the …

Of the 114,994 people in the Cherokee County labor force, 7,122 were unemployed in April. A year ago the unemployment rate was up to 7.1 percent. Just to the south, Cobb County's jobless rate dipped below seven percent, falling three tenths of a percent in a month.  Cobb County's labor force lost approximately 200 workers while almost another 1,000 found jobs to lower the rate. Memorial Day BBQ? 8 Money-Saving Tricks (Sponsored)

Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are, you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.

Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party.   1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” Try…
