Andrew Messina's Funeral Today

The parents of the 16-year-old killed in a SWAT standoff are questioning the actions of sheriff's officers.

The funeral for Andrew Messina, the 16-year-old killed by a SWAT sniper during a standoff last week, will be today at 4 p.m. at Hillside United Methodist Church. Meanwhile, the Etowah High sophomore's parents are questioning the actions of the Cherokee County sheriff's officers after mother Lisa Messina called Tuesday evening about Andrew's brandishing of a .357 Magnum handgun inside their Eagle Watch house. “The threat was to kill himself and no one else,” father Nicholas Messina told WSB-TV before Sunday's visitation at Woodstock Funeral Home. Lisa Messina said she never felt her life was in danger. “If this is the best they can do, then they need a lot of improvement,” she said of sheriff's officers. Capt. Joe Satterfield, who commands …

Bob the Turkey Honored with Headstone

The Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department placed an engraved marker at Bob's gravesite.

The community now has an official site to visit Bob the Turkey as he rests near his home on Main Street with a proper headstone. Members from the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department placed a brick marker engraved with "'Bob' the Turkey 2012" this morning for the beloved town mascot. The memorial site is still surrounded by flowers, notes and the sign from his home across the street. Bob was buried last Tuesday, Jan. 17, by the Parks and Rec Department after he was first taken to the Rubes Creek Water Reclamation facility. But, because of the public demand, he was buried near the entrance of the Serenade subdivision and the Woodstock Welcome sign. Bob was hit and killed Sunday, Jan. 15, by a car on Main Street. He had been an idol of …

City Buries Bob the Turkey

Downtown Woodstock's Bob the Turkey was hit and killed by a driver on Main Street on Sunday.

Bob the Turkey was laid to rest in peace this morning. Members from the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department buried Bob by the brick Welcome to Olde Towne Woodstock sign on Main Street. "This is where you would commonly see Bob wandering around," said Parks and Rec Director Preston Pooser. "Typically, cities don't do things like this, but we had people calling from two or three states away about Bob, and we wanted to give him a proper burial." Bob will have a brick as a place marker that reads, "Bob the Turkey 2012" for those who loved Woodstock's unofficial mascot to walk by and remember him. Bob was hit and killed by a driver Sunday afternoon on Main Street. He's been an idol of Downtown Woodstock since he made his home outside of …

Bob the Turkey Killed by Car

Woodstock's unofficial mascot was hit by a driver coming down Main Street on Sunday.

A Woodstock legend was killed this weekend. Drivers frequently saw the unofficial mascot of downtown wandering around his own designated wildlife sign, skipping down the tracks in front of the Serenade subdivision and occasionally chasing police cars. According to Bob the Turkey's Facebook page, he was hit and killed by a driver coming down Main Street on Sunday. This was posted on the page around 4 p.m.:  "We are so very sad to report that we have confirmed what some of Bob's friends have posted below. Bob was hit by a vehicle earlier today and is no longer with us. We are so thankful for all the happy memories we have of him and how in some ways he brought the community of Woodstock together. We love you so much, Bob! You were a …
