Nixon, 54, has been charged with felony possession of cocaine after he was arrested along I-575 near the Airport Road interchange.
Former Atlanta Brave Otis Nixon is in trouble with the law. The former center-fielder for the Braves was arrested just after midnight on Saturday for felony possession of cocaine and possession of a drug-related object, according to a police report from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. He remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on a $11,880 bond. Nixon, who had a 66-year-old female passenger in the truck with him, was pulled over after Cherokee County dispatchers put out a be-on-the-lookout for a possible intoxicated driver traveling in a red Dodge Ram truck northbound on Interstate 575. Dispatch received the tip from a caller who witnessed the truck allegedly weave over the roadway. An investigator with the sheriff's office …

Update, Thursday, May 2: The Adrenaline Run's 5K obstacle trail mud run in Woodstock has been rescheduled for Sept. 14 and 15. Original post, Wednesday, May 1: Teens are invited to sign up for Adrenaline Run's 5K obstacle trail mud run in Woodstock. The weekend event takes place May 18 and 19 at Olde Rope Mill Park and includes various obstacles and terrains and live music and freebies. Attendees can also bring old sneakers to donate to Soles4souls.com. Go here to sign up.

Woodstock resident Brian Bohannon was introduced as the Owls' first head football coach on Tuesday.
Declaring that he's found a new football home -- which happens to be very close to his family home -- Kennesaw State University football coach Brian Bohannon said he's eager to get started creating a program from scratch. Bohannon, 42, a former University of Georgia wide receiver who has been quarterbacks coach at Georgia Tech for the last seven years, was introduced Tuesday as he begins to guide the Owls from a long-term idea to on-the-field reality in two years. "I felt there was something special here," Bohannon said during his first press conference, held at KSU's Fifth Third Bank Stadium near campus. 48 student athletes from Cherokee County were honored at a banquet at Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center.
Student athletes from Etowah, River Ridge and Woodstock high schools that signed letters of intent to play college sports were recognized during a ceremony at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center on Wednesday. In total, 48 Cherokee County School District (CCSD) student athletes were received at a brunch in honor of their commitments on National Signing Day, the earliest day high school seniors are allowed to make a commitment to play college football. Although football is the big draw on National Signing Day, the CCSD student athletes will be playing other sports such as baseball, wrestling, and track and field, among others.
