Brian Stockton Named Woodstock Economic Development Director

Woodstock City Planner Brian Stockton has been tapped to serve as the city's new economic development director.

Woodstock's City Planner Brian Stockton will soon transition into a new role.  Stockton has accepted the position of Woodstock's economic development director and will begin work in his new role on Wednesday March 6, City Manager Jeff Moon said. Stockton has served as Woodstock's city planner since May 2006. Before that, he served in internships with the city of Marietta's Development Services Department and the Cobb County Department of Transportation.  He also was the employment coordinator with Rosser International. Moon said he's watched Stockton work on a number of economic development projects in the city, such as the Reformation Brewery and he feels "very comfortable with him in the economic development director role." Woodstock In No Rush To Fill Peppers' Position

Billy Peppers' last day will be on Nov. 30.

Woodstock officials want to wait before diving into the search to replace its director of economic services. City Manager Jeff Moon said he plans to move slower on the quest to fill Billy Peppers' shoes.  Peppers announced Wednesday that he will stepping down as the city's director of economic services. His last day with the city will be on Nov. 30 and he will start his new position with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Peppers Leaving Woodstock For State Position

The city's economic services director has accepted a position with the state Department of Community Affairs.

The city of Woodstock will soon lose another high-ranking employee. Billy Peppers, the city's director of economic services, announced Wednesday afternoon that he has accepted a position with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Peppers will work in the department's Community Development & Finance Division.  The new position, which he said will be "challenging and rewarding," will involve him taking "best practices" in small business downtown and downtown development and showcasing those models to other communities across the state.  Peppers' resignation comes on the heels of former Community Development Director Richard McLeod taking the same position in the city of Alpharetta.  Peppers' last day with Woodstock is Nov. 30 and he …

Art, Wine Festival Returns To Woodstock

The two-day event will return to Woodstock for the fourth year in a row.

Premier Events will bring its popular Woodstock Art and Wine Festival back to the city next weekend. The free, two-day family-friendly event will take place at the Park at City Center Nov. 3-4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include a juried fine arts show, wine tastings, live entertainment, an interactive children's activity area and food. More than 70 artists throughout the southeast will have their artwork on hand, representing a variety of media such as painting, photography, sculpture, pottery and jewelry.  Participants can purchase a wine-tasting wristband and enjoy unlimited samples of more than 30 types of wine. Peppers Named VP Of Educational Foundation

Billy Peppers will join the board of the Cherokee County Educational Foundation

Woodstock Economic Services Director Billy Peppers has been named vice president of the Cherokee County Educational Foundation.  The foundation, organized at the request of Cherokee County School Board vice chair Janet Read, advocates for Cherokee County School district teachers and staff "by promoting teaching and learning and celebrating achievements," according to a press release issued by the school district.  The foundation will raise money and seek out resources to enhance the educational experiences in the school district. Peppers Named GA Downtown Association President

Billy Peppers began his new role Jan. 1 and said he hopes to bring new ideas to Woodstock.

One of Downtown Woodstock's leaders will be paving the road for all Georgia downtowns after his recent election as president of the Georgia Downtown Association. Billy Peppers, the Downtown Development Authority executive director since 2005 and Woodstock’s director of economic services since 2008, began his new role Jan. 1, according to The Cherokee Tribune. The association’s board of directors elected Peppers in a unanimous vote during its annual conference in the fall, according to The Tribune. Peppers told The Tribune he wants to focus on promoting jobs as well as historic preservation in Georgia downtowns. Him and his wife are members of the Cherokee County Historical Society. City Continues with Outlet Mall Plans

The City of Woodstock approved The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta in mid-December to move forward, but they've hit a bump in the road costing $700,000.

The City of Woodstock has a long road ahead of them before they could be seeing a 365,000-square-foot mall on the north side of Main Street. Right now, they are concentrating on altering that road instead of worrying about a competing outlet mall only 10 miles across town or even the possibility of not having funding to complete existing outlined projects. Both Woodstock and Ridgewalk parkways that run perpendicular to each other are set to be relocated, but the focus at the moment is on $700,000 for Ridgewalk Parkway. The Ridgewalk project is $2.77 million, with $2.7 million coming from the current SPLOST for road infrastructure projects, said Billy Peppers, director of Economic Development.
