Woodstock hospice nurse is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $73,000 bond.
A Woodstock hospice nurse was arrested for stealing narcotic pain killers from an elderly patient. A family member informed the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad of a possible theft, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Amy M. Armstrong, 40, was seen taking the prescription narcotics from the elderly patient’s home today. She was also found with more narcotic pain killers and anti-depressants. Armstrong was charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, two counts of elder abuse, two counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance and a single count of possession of a schedule III controlled substance. A caller is soliciting funds for bonds from individuals who have family members in jail.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday afternoon warning residents about a statewide scam that targets individuals who have family members in jail. Callers have contacted family members by phone identifying themselves an officer from the sheriff’s office, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman from the sheriff's office. The caller then advises the family that if they put funds into a PayPal account their family member will be allowed to bond out of the jail. "Citizens with family members in custody in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center should be advised that under no circumstances will an employee from the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office contact them and solicit funds for a bond," Baker said. I lost my mother many years ago to a terminal illness. The local hospice agency was outstanding in their services and in their support. The hospice nurses have an incredibly stressful job.
