Cherokee Adopt-A-Senior Program Still Needs Help

The deadline to help the county's less fortunate senior citizens is fast approaching.

A little over 100 Cherokee County seniors still need to be adopted for the holiday season. That's according to the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency, which is working with the Cherokee County Senior Services department to coordinate its Adopt-A-Senior program this year. The deadline to participate in the agency's program is Friday and 108 seniors still need to be adopted by volunteers, said CRPA Recreation Coordinator Frankie Sanders. Those who volunteer to help will be asked to put together a gift bag that should include a terry cloth towel set, stationary and envelopes, a book of stamps, lotion and a special card or note to the senior all placed in a holiday themed gift bag.  Volunteers will be then asked to drop off their gift bags …

Adopt-A-Senior Volunteers Still Needed

The annual program is seeking volunteers for this holiday season.

The Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council is in preparation for its annual Adopt-A-Senior Program for this upcoming holiday season. Volunteers are asked to adopt a senior who is currently receiving services through the Meals-On-Wheels, Congregate Meal or Homemaker Programs. If you are interested in adopting a senior please contact Kim Watt, Recreation Coordinator with Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority at kwatt@cherokeega.com to register. Once registered you are asked to put together a gift package of a queen sized blanket, six washcloths and a decorative/accent pillow. Please wrap all packages before delivery. No canned goods are being requested this year.
