And the winners are ... Perfect weather blessed the City of Woodstock Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights and parade watchers in the thousands who came to downtown Woodstock on Dec. 3 to witness more than 200 parade entries march down Main Street! Crossfire Youth Ministry’s float was voted Best Holiday Float. The Crossfire float focused on giving, rather than receiving, featuring a modern day Mary, Joseph and Jesus who were homeless. The float presented an Atlanta skyline and two street performers who sang Christmas songs. The ministry’s trash can drum band followed by street performers dancing with scarves carrying graffiti-themed banners asking everyone to “Love One Another as You Love Yourself!” Most Original Float honors went to …

We're a couple of thousand years from Christmas being a celebration of the birth of a Jewish boy in Bethlehem, but maybe we can get back to a simpler, less violent holiday commercialism.
Did your favorite Christmas novelty song make the list?
I think it's found in Jeph Loeb's unbelievably awesome The Long Halloween, but the single greatest panel in comic book history shows the Joker, tiptoeing through the empty house of Harvey Dent, wearing a Santa hat and goofily singing the following to himself: Jingle bells, Batman smells Robin laid an egg The Batmobile lost a wheel And the Joker got away... In terms of meta-jokes, there can be none finer. First time I read those panels, I laughed out loud - not because of the Joker's obvious insanity, but because I immediately went back to the fifth grade, or whatever year it was that I first heard that song. Sung, obviously, to the tune of "Jingle Bells," it stuck with me because A) it was horribly catchy, B) it combined Christmas with …

Check out this link to see what Santa Claus sees as he makes his round-the-world trip on Christmas Eve, thanks to the Air Force's North American Aerospace Defense Command, known everywhere as NORAD. You also can follow Santa's progress on the interactive map above. According to NORAD, Santa could get to Woodstock as early as 8:30 p.m. and should be gone by midnight, give or take a few reindeer pit stops. To get the latest updates on his progress, call 877-HINORAD, and a friendly volunteer, usually from the armed forces, will help you out. (If you get a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine, be sure to offer thanks for serving our country so you can stay on Santa's good-child list.) Last year, NORAD handled more than 80,000 calls about Santa's …

I love baking during the holidays. It warms the kitchen and fills it with the wonderful scents of sugar and spice. In the meantime, I’m going to bake and decorate some of my favorite cookies to eat, give to friends, eat, serve at parties and eat. The first recipe is one of my very favorites. I got this from a friend when I was in college; then lost it due to my ever popular habit of writing recipes on the backs of grocery receipts, finally contacted her for the recipe again and have been making it ever since. My friend Dinnie Weaks calls these cookies Ginger Stars because she always cuts them into star shapes. I call them Ginger Stars…
