The Coffeehouse hosted its final music night in its current location on Saturday, and plans for the move are in motion.
Woodstock Coffeehouse hosted one last night of music on Saturday before the business relocates to newly renovated Downtown Woodstock. The musicians included some young Coffeehouse performers, Bruce Gibson and friends, and Zsler and The Day Trippers. Lots of loyal customers came out to show their appreciation for the long-standing Coffeehouse, which some have been visiting religiously since it first opened. The show was a success, and many enjoyed saying their goodbyes to the old location and discussing the new. Local musician Gibson was joined by a fellow frequent performer, Richard Cooper, on the guitar. Their set had lots of audience interaction, and Gibson went wild over the latte art bear in his coffee. The Coffeehouse enjoyed Stephen Reynolds' signature reggae style and spiritual lyrics on Friday.
Woodstock Coffeehouse hosted musician Stephen Reynolds on Friday, who wears his Rasta colored shoelaces to nearly every show. Reynolds has a distinctly reggae musical style that is popular with the audience. He said he plays his guitar like it is three separate instruments: a bass, drum and lead. “I go in and out of the off beat reggae style within each song, and I think that change within the song is my trademark. Sublime did it with their music, changing in one song from a punk beat to a hip hop beat to a reggae beat,” Reynolds explained. “That style just came spontaneously to me over the years. Jeannie Caryn headlined Friday night with special guests Tom Flugum and Marc Lawson.
Musicians Jeannie Caryn, Marc Lawson and Tom Flugum each played solo sets during a lively show Friday at Woodstock Coffeehouse. These three artists' styles flowed together well, and the night was a success. Show opener Tom Flugum has been touring local venues with Jeannie for almost a year, and played some popular covers. “Jeannie is a great singer, and we always support each other and look for opportunities to play out," Flugum said. "We have styles and taste that compliment each other, so I was very happy to sit in with her and play at the coffeehouse. The show closer, pianist Lawson, has an EP coming out soon. Woodstock Coffeehouse hosted pianist, vocalist and songwriter Pete Morley Friday night, creating an enjoyable evening for everyone. Morley is friend to frequent performers Kevin Carlson and Bruce Gibson. Morley played at a Woodstock Coffeehouse open mic and decided to come back for more. “It's got a great vibe. Everyone is really supportive,” Morley said. This California-born musician enjoys visiting Woodstock, both for its small-town feel and its nightlife. Talented guitarist David McLeod performed an energetic and enjoyable set for audience members at Woodstock Coffeehouse on Friday night.
Woodstock Coffeehouse hosted quite a crowd Friday for David McLeod's performance, which included lots of rhythm guitar and both creative originals and covers. McLeod traveled to Woodstock from his home in Grant Park for the show. “I absolutely love playing live most of the time. There is no feeling in the world like the one being robustly applauded delivers,” McLeod said. During his performance, he invited Woodstock Coffeehouse's music coordinator Robin Roberts on stage to accompany him. Jeremy Cochran, Georgia resident for all of his 33 years, grew up in Woodstock and returned on Saturday to perform a live set at Woodstock Coffeehouse. “The coffeehouse is a place where being an original artist is appreciated. Most bars you play at only want to hear covers, and the people are there mostly to get drunk. When you play the coffeehouse you know some people are genuinely listening, and that is golden,” Cochran said. Though the impending New Year celebrations stole much of Woodstock Coffeehouse's usual crowd on the 31st, Georgia resident Joshua Miller gladly played his set for the modest audience as midnight drew closer. Miller, 26, said he enjoys performing live shows for the chance to let others experience his music. "I love to play live. Woodstock Coffeehouse hosted what turned into a lively Christmas party on Saturday night, featuring local musicians Colorado, Caleb Fox, Jonathan Peyton & Anna Woods, and Brim & Company. The music was an entertaining blend of folk rock, indie and acoustic folk styles and included instruments such as banjos and a tambourine.
