No timeline has been set for move
If all goes to plan, the Woodstock Visitor Center at Dean's Store could relocate next year. The city is eyeing the possibility of the center, along with its Downtown Development Authority's offices on Main Street, relocating onto the Chambers at City Center campus. Both entities would relocate into what's commonly referred to as Building B, one of three buildings that made up the former Woodstock Community Church. One estimate of the project puts the cost between $500,000 and $520,000 and City Manager Jeff Moon said the the city has $231,739.28 directed towards the project. Billy Peppers began his new role Jan. 1 and said he hopes to bring new ideas to Woodstock.
One of Downtown Woodstock's leaders will be paving the road for all Georgia downtowns after his recent election as president of the Georgia Downtown Association. Billy Peppers, the Downtown Development Authority executive director since 2005 and Woodstock’s director of economic services since 2008, began his new role Jan. 1, according to The Cherokee Tribune. The association’s board of directors elected Peppers in a unanimous vote during its annual conference in the fall, according to The Tribune. Peppers told The Tribune he wants to focus on promoting jobs as well as historic preservation in Georgia downtowns. Him and his wife are members of the Cherokee County Historical Society. Friday Night Live proved to be the most popular downtown event in Main Street Woodstock's survey.
Downtown Woodstock can expect 54 more parking spots by the Christmas holiday season. The Downtown Development Authority was the driving force behind the Mill Street Parking Lot that will not only add parking to help congestion downtown, but will also add streetlights and a sidewalk. Perry Tanner, board member, said he was pleased with the progress and believes the lights will be positive and safe addition behind the Johnson building at the meeting Thursday night at the Chambers at City Center. Pedestrians will enjoy the sidewalk that will line Mill Street before the completion of the gravel parking lot that corners the Woodstock Methodist Church parking lot and the back of the building that houses LKT Sports.
