Applications are being accepted for Cherokee's Got Talent, which will return to downtown Woodstock in July.
Are you the most talented person in Cherokee County? If so, the Cherokee Association of Realtors and Elm Street Cultural Arts Village wants you to prove it in its upcoming Cherokee's Got Talent in July. Both organizations are accepting applications for the event, which will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday July 27 at Elm Street Arts' theatre in downtown Woodstock. Applications and registration can be done by clicking here. Proceeds will go towards Elm Street Arts' plans to renovate the Reeves Home into its new facility. Acting coaches John Homa and Jeff Dockweiler will visit Elm Street Arts for a two-day workshop later this month.
Two Hollywood acting coaches with a combined 25 years of experience will bring their skills of the trade to Woodstock. John Homa and Jeff Dockweiler will share what they know about Hollywood and how it operates behind the scenes later this month at Elm Street Arts in downtown Woodstock. The coaches will hold two-day workshops on May 28-29 for child actors ages 5-12 and a three-day sessions May 30, May 31 and June 1 for teen actors ages 13-19. The two-day sessions are $225 and the three-day sessions are $275 and parents interested in registering their children can click here to do so. Two companies have donated nearly $20,000 to be used towards building the event lawn at the future site of Elm Street Arts.
Two companies have donated tens of thousands of dollars in materials to complete the event green for the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village. Austin Outdoor, based in central Florida, and Atlanta-based Highland Waterworks, Inc. donated nearly $20,000 worth of materials and labor to build the event green portion of four acres Elm Street Arts plans to move to in the near future. "Elm Street fits in perfectly with the type of projects we like to assist in our corporate outreach program," said Brian Wester, regional vice president of Austin Outdoor. Shawn McLeod, president of the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village's board of directors, will participate in the Arts Leaders of Metro Atlanta program.
A Woodstock resident has been selected to participate in the Arts Leaders of Metro Atlanta program. Shawn McLeod will participate in the five-day, five month program coordinated by the Atlanta Regional Commission, which encourages "leaders throughout the community to take an active role in solving the issues and challenges facing the region’s arts & culture community." This year's five classes will be held on Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20, April 17 and May 8. Cherokee Bank President & CEO Dennis Burnette, a citizen member of the ARC's Board, nominated McLeod for the program. The bank is also sponsoring McLeod's tuition in the program. Three rising artists will perform an acoustic concert in downtown Woodstock next Saturday. Jordan Grassi of Canton, Courtney Dickinson of Acworth and Jonathan Peyton of Woodstock will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village at 8534 Main Street. All three musicians write and perform their own songs and have toured throughout Georgia and other parts of the country. Peyton recently released a CD titled “Like a Ghost" while Dickinson's song “Wasting All My Time” was selected by Reverbnation & Dodge as part of the Inspired by You Contest now live on Dodge's Facebook page. Friday night will be a little bit spooky in downtown Woodstock. Elm Street Arts will kick off its annual Ghost Tales and Trails series tonight and Sat. Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27. Tickets are $11 for adults, $6 for children ages 12 and under if purchased online in advanced. Prices at door are $13 for adults and $8 for children. Sarah Hill, a 14-year-old student at Woodstock High School, dresses as a princess for tea parties and other events.
Sarah Hill says taking on the role of Belle was an accident. But now, portraying the dark-haired princess for little girls brings her joy. “I love working with kids, and I love acting, so it’s two of my favorite things,” said Hill, a 14-year-old freshman at Woodstock High School. Now Hill has started her own business called A Party Princess and said she hopes to start playing Belle for birthday parties. Hill first played Belle during a 4th of July parade in Woodstock because the Fairy Godmother costume she had planned on wearing was too warm.
