The Eagles were yards away from the potential winning touchdown against West Forsyth when time ran out.
The Etowah Eagles had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter of their first-round playoff game at West Forsyth on Friday night but came up about seven yards short. Etowah lost, 13-7, exiting the Georgia High School Association's AAAAA playoffs and ending its season. With three seconds to play, quarterback John Oliver launched Etowah's Hail Mary pass from the 50-yard line, according to the Cherokee Tribune. At the other end of the long pass was running back Devonte Wheaton, who came down with the ball at the 7-yard line but couldn't shake a tackler to score. The Eagles spotted West Forsyth a 13-point lead in the first half and couldn't recover. The Eagles finally scored on a 24-yard run by Devonte Wheaton with 38 seconds left …

With 20 seconds left, the Eagles recovered a fumble at the 1-yard line to clinch the win against the Lassiter Trojans, 17-14.
Trojan Stadium in Northeast Cobb was packed with fans for the unusual Thursday night football game, which Etowah won, 17-14. The matchup aired live on WSB-TV. There was little movement in the first half with only one touchdown by the Eagles, but the second half proved to be an intense game. The Etowah Eagles' head coach, Bill Stewart, attributed Thursday night's win to the defensive line and interceptions. The coaches for the Lassiter Trojans had to decline an interview because of a scheduling conflict. The Eagles are now preparing for their first playoff game against the Region 6-AAAAA runner-up, West Forsyth.
River Ridge is on the road while Woodstock hosts Walton. Etowah played last night.
River Ridge (7-2, 1-0) at North Murray (0-9, 0-6) – River Ridge got back on track last week with a 39-point win over Social Circle. Since the Knights aren’t eligible for the playoffs, tonight’s contest at North Murray will be their final game of the season. The Mountaineers haven’t won a game all season. Walton (9-0, 5-0) at Woodstock (4-5, 1-4) – Woodstock has dropped its last four games in a row and scored just less than six points per game on average over that time. The Wolverines have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason play, so tonight they are only playing for a shot at an upset over Walton, the eighth-ranked team in the state. Walton is perfect on the season and has been cruising of late, beating its last three …

One of the fiercest rivalries around rekindles tonight at Etowah High School.
Woodstock (4-3, 1-2) at Etowah (4-4, 2-2) – When Woodstock and Etowah meet, in any sport, there’s no telling what might happen. Not only is this a cross-town rivalry, but it’s also a Region 5-AAAAA rivalry and the schools sit just two miles apart off the same street. The Eagles were supposed to be a force in region play but injuries have taken a toll. If the Wolverines can manage a road win, they’ll leapfrog Etowah in the standings and sit in a strong spot to grab the final playoff spot in the region. Lanier (2-1) at River Ridge (6-1) – River Ridge is back on track with consecutive wins after a hiccup on Sept. 30. The Knights have scored 40 or more points four times this season with a punishing ground attack. They’ll look to establish that…
