GDOT To Patch Asphalt on Towne Lake Ramps to I-575

The Georgia Department of Transportation's maintenance crews will perform the work next week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will perform maintenance work on the Towne Lake Parkway entrance ramps to I-575 next week. Crews will be repairing the deteriorating asphalt spots on the Towne Lake Parkway entrance ramps Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 9 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. It is GDOT's policy to repair and maintain Georgia interstates and state highways using methods such as deep patching, proper equipment and skilled and dedicated employees.  "Prompt repair of small asphalt pavement defects has significant impacts on reducing maintenance costs," according to a press release from GDOT. Georgia Transportation Crews To Cut Vegetation Along I-575, Highway 140

The Georgia Department of Transportation will cut the grass alongside I-575 and Highway 140/Hickory Flat Highway on Monday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation's maintenance crews will make cosmetic improvements along Interstate 575 and Highway 140/Hickory Flat Highway in Cherokee County. Along with those two highways, the crews will continue to cut vegetation along Highway 20 in Bartow, Highway 5 and Highway 60 in Fannin County, Highway 515 and Highway 282 in Gilmer County. Weather permitting, work will proceed daily between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. GDOT calls the grass cutting "integrated roadside vegetation management," which is a method to "bring together social and cultural elements, biological concerns, and mechanical treatments to economically manage roadsides for motorist safety, environmental health and visual quality," according to a …

Georgia Transportation Commissioner To Visit Cherokee County

Keith Golden, the commissioner for the Georgia Department of Transportation, will discuss proposed express lanes on Interstate 575 in April to the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will welcome Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Keith Golden during its April Good Morning Cherokee networking breakfast. Golden is set to give updates an updates on projects under construction, including information on the express lanes on I-575. The meeting, sponsored by Cobb EMC, will be held at 7 a.m. Thursday April 4 at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center in Canton. GDOT Issues Inclement Weather Road Advisory

GDOT is urging motorists to monitor weather conditions in advance with the possibility of light snow and icy roadways expected Thursday and Friday in areas of North Georgia.

Weather forecasts for areas of north Georgia and Woodstock are calling for rain and snow , and possibly black ice accumulations on roadways as far south as Columbus beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Due to the expected inclement weather, the Georgia Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead before traveling during this timeframe and check weather and road conditions before heading out. “We are continuously monitoring current weather conditions and forecasts as snow flurries and high winds are predicted for north Georgia," said Keith Golden, Georgia DOT Commissioner. Ridgewalk Interchange 'A Long Time Coming'

The city of Woodstock celebrated the interchange's opening with a ribbon cutting Thursday morning.

Local and state leaders gathered this morning in Woodstock to celebrate the completion of a transportation project that's been more than 30 years in the making.  The city of Woodstock held a ribbon cutting to welcome the opening of the Ridgewalk Parkway interchange at Exit 9 on Interstate 575.  The design-build project officially wrapped up on Nov. 16, about six weeks ahead of its Dec. 31 completion date. The project also was completed on budget. Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques noted the project has been a "long time coming," adding the first correspondence on the project dates back to 1976.  He noted residents, city officials and other are "happy this thing is open.”  Georgia Department of Transportation District 6 Board Member Brandon …

Today's weather should be nearly perfect for the city of Woodstock to hold its ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the Ridgewalk Parkway interchange on Interstate 575. The ceremony, which was originally slated to be held on Tuesday, will start at 10 a.m. today. Parking will be available along Rope Mill Road near Olde Rope Mill Park and at the VCC Construction's office area along Woodstock Parkway and Ridgewalk Parkway. The design-build project officially wrapped up on Nov. 16, about six weeks ahead of its Dec. 31 completion date. The project also was completed on budget. Along with building a diamond-shaped interchange, crews also replaced the Ridgewalk Parkway bridge over the interstate, realigned Rope Mill Road to intersect with …

Ribbon Cutting Today For New Ridgewalk Interchange

The new interchange has been open for nearly two weeks.

UPDATE @ 8:14 a.m.: the city has cancelled today's ribbon cutting due to the weather. It will be rescheduled for a later date. The city of Woodstock today will host a ribbon cutting for the new Ridgewalk interchange. The ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. near the site. Since rain is expected to linger in the area during the morning hours, the city has made parking available off Rope Mill Road at Olde Rope Mill Park. A shuttle will take attendees from the park to the site of the ribbon cutting starting at 9:30 a.m.  The design-build project officially wrapped up on  Nov. 16, about six weeks ahead of its Dec. 31 completion date.  The project entailed building a diamond-shaped interchange, replacing the existing Rope Mill Road bridge …
