Four candidates will be on the Jan. 8 ballot.
The qualifying period for candidates to enter the House District 21 special election on Jan. 8, 2013 ended at noon Wednesday with six people successfully qualifying. Two additional candidates qualified after the initial list was published on Dec. 10-independent international account director Eduardo Correia and Republican businessman Kenneth Ashley Mimbs. Both men are from the Canton area. Next month's election is required because the former holder of the seat, Rep. Sean Jerguson, has left the State House of Representatives in order to run for the State Senate seat vacated by Chip Rogers earlier this month. Two candidates have already dropped out of the race. There are four candidates on the ballot for the Jan. 8 special election.
The list of candidates for the vacant House District 21 seat is expanding, including representatives from both major political parties. The seat was vacated by Sean Jerguson on Dec. 5 so that he could run for the Senate seat of former Sen. Chip Rogers, who has retired from politics to persue a career in public broadcasting. A special election will be held on Jan. 8, 2013, to choose the next representative for House District 21, which includes Holly Springs and parts of Canton and Woodstock. State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs) will face challenger Scot Turner in the Republican primary.
District 21 State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs) announced he will seek a fourth term today. Jerguson represents District 22, but the number is changing to 21 which is comprised of Holly Springs, Hickory Flat, Bridgemill and the Arnold Mill and Highway 140 corridors. "Too much is at stake, our conservative values need a leader that will stand bold in the face of opposition," Jerguson said. "I have a track record of standing up for small business and our family values. As your State Representative, I have used my experience to deliver conservative reforms to cut government spending, lower taxes, and get our families back to work.
