'Urban Challenge 4' Allows Residents To Test Knowledge of Woodstock, YMCA

The 'Woodstock Urban Challenge 4' will also serve as a vehicle for the YMCA of Cherokee County to draw attention to its Youth Fit For Life initiative.

The YMCA of Cherokee County is using a unique way to allow residents to flaunt their knowledge of the organization, the city of Woodstock — and to also raise awareness about its anti-obesity campaign.  The YMCA, along with the Greenprints Alliance, will present its Woodstock Urban Challenge 4, a scavenger hunt activity designed to attract Cherokee County residents who want to get outside and test their knowledge on Woodstock and the YMCA.  The hunt, which is free for those wishing to participate, starts at 12:30 p.m. March 23, and will be held during the same time as this year's TrailFest, the headline fundraiser for the Greenprints Alliance.  Teams will be able to start any time between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., but the hunt will …

Kurt Thomas Band, Whiskey Gentry To Perform At 'Trailfest'

The Greenprints Alliance has finalized its list of music acts for Trailfest 2013, which will be held on March 23.

Organizers behind the fourth annual Trailfest 2013 have released the final line up for its music acts for its festival slated to hit Woodstock later this month.  The Whiskey Gentry and the Kurt Thomas Band, among others, will headline the festival organized by Greenprints Alliance, which is slated for 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 23 in downtown Woodstock.  Having recently been chosen by Paste Magazine as the "Best of What’s Next," The Whiskey Gentry have established themselves among the Atlanta music elite. They have shared the stage with artists such as Doc Watson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rhett Miller of the Old 97s, John Popper, Ed Roland of Collective Soul, Chatham County Line and Slobberbone. Woodstock Fundraiser Pairs Beer, Dinner For Mountain Bike Trails

Freight Kitchen & Tap will host the second-annual Greenprints Beer Dinner to raise money for the Woodstock chapter of the Southern Off-Road Biking Association, or SORBA.

Freight Kitchen & Tap will team up with Woodstock's Greenprints Alliance to raise money for a local mountain biking advocacy organization. The second-annual Greenprints Beer Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. March 13 at Freight, located at 251 East Main Street in downtown Woodstock.  The five-course dinner will have craft beer pairings and will feature guest chef Kyle Shankman of Sur La Table and Chef Robert Morneweck of Freight and Table 33. The event will benefit the Woodstock chapter of the Southern Off-Road Biking Association, or SORBA. 'Trailfest' Brings Food, Music To Downtown Woodstock

The Greenprints Alliance' annual festival, which is designed to draw attention to its purpose of raising money to build trails, will be held on March 23.

An event that draws thousands to Woodstock in an effort to raise money to build trails will return in March.  Greenprints Alliance's Trailfest 2013 is set for March 23 in downtown Woodstock.  The event, originally coined Streetfest, is going into its fourth year. "After extensive focus groups and market research, we decided to gear the event to a more trail focused theme and event," the organization noted on its Facebook event page. "It took as a very long time to come up with this rebrand of the event." The event will take place at the Park at City Center and blends music, activities, food and entertainment with education about the organization's efforts to raise money to expand the city's trail network.  Some of the musical acts that …

Woodstock Pledges Funds To Help Build Trail

The city council voted last night to approve matching up to $40,000 in impact fees to help construct a new mountain bike trail at Olde Rope Mill Park

The city of Woodstock has signed on to help the completion of the Taylor Randahl Memorial Bike Trails at Olde Rope Mill Park. The council voted unanimously to approve matching up to $40,000 in impact fees, which would be given towards SORBA Woodstock and Greenprints Alliance's campaign to build the Fierce Loop at the trail. The funds would come from impact fees and the land, which is already being leased by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, also counts towards the acreage requirement of land in the city's impact fee ordinance. The Fierce Loop would encompass 3.5 miles built on the north side of Little River and is the final installment of mountain bike trails at Olde Rope Mill Park. Woodstock Council To Consider Resolution On Trail Funding

The resolution would support donating money to construct a new mountain bike trail in the city.

A resolution to support donating money to two organizations to build a mountain biking trail will be considered by the Woodstock City Council on Monday. The council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Chambers at City Center in downtown Woodstock. City staff has identified funding for up to $40,000 as a dollar for dollar match to SORBA Woodstock and Greenprints Alliance to build the Fierce Loop at the Taylor Randahl Mountain Bike Trails at Olde Rope Mill Park.  The funds would come from impact fees and the land, which is already being leased by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, also counts towards the acreage requirement of land in the city's impact fee ordinance. GA Theater Donates Bike Racks

The bike racks will be placed at one of the trail heads scheduled to open next year.

The Georgia Theater Company has donated two bike racks to the City of Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department. The bike racks will be placed at one of the trail heads scheduled to open next year as part of the Greenprints Trail System in Woodstock. “We appreciate that The Georgia Theatre Company thought of us with this donation of much needed bike racks for our trail system," said Woodstock Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser. "The bike racks became available during their recent theater renovation.” The Georgia Theatre Company is completing a $1.5 million renovation at the Cherokee Stadium 16 Theater.
