Victim Identified in I-575 Fatality

Jamie Lynn Sanborn of Ball Ground was hit and killed by a vehicle late Wednesday night.

The Georgia State Patrol has identified the woman who was fatally hit by a vehicle on Interstate 575 late Wednesday night. Jamie Lynn Sanborn, 42, of Ball Ground, was struck and killed near mile marker nine between the new Ridgewalk Parkway interchange under construction and Towne Lake Parkway, said Georgia State Patrol Spokesman Gordy Wright. Wright said state troopers responded to the crash around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. "A witness told the trooper that Sanborn and a passenger in a vehicle had an argument and the driver pulled over to the shoulder of the road," he said. Person Struck, Killed on I-575

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

A pedestrian was hit and killed along Interstate 575 late Wednesday night in Woodstock, according to CBS Atlanta. The victim was struck in the southbound lane between the new Ridgewalk Parkway interchange under construction and Towne Lake Parkway. Woodstock Police Spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said the individual driving the car that struck the victim remained on the scene. It's unknown if the victim, who has not been identified, was walking from or to a disabled vehicle. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident. Weekend Construction on I-575

One lane will be blocked until Monday morning.

Highways across the metro Atlanta area are undergoing weekend construction projects, and Cherokee County isn't exempt from the proceedings. The right lane of Insterstate 575 is closed at Sixes Road until 5 a.m. Monday. The construction began at 7 p.m. on Friday. Fiery Crash Leaves 1 Dead

The early morning accident occurred on Interstate 575.

One person is dead after a fiery, early morning crash on Interstate 575. The victim in the single-vehicle accident has not been identified, but Cobb County Police Officer Michael Bowman said the motorist was driving a Ford Expedition on I-575 South when the SUV "left the roadway and struck a bridge wall on 575 northbound" about 3:45 a.m. today. The Expedition "rode the wall and came to final rest in Cobb County on Hawkins Store Road," Bowman said. "The vehicle then burst into flames." Stay with Patch for updates. Police Announce Hit-and-Run Charges

Friday, the injured construction worker was at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he was listed in critical condition.

Charges have been announced in the hit-and-run that injured a construction worker on Friday. Kenneth Gonzalez of Canton, the suspect in the hit-and-run, will face charges of reckless driving, aggravated battery, failure to report accident with injuries, failure to report accident with property damage, hit-and-run, and failure to maintain lane, Woodstock Police Department spokeswoman Brittany Duncan wrote in a brief email to Canton-Sixes Patch on Sunday. Friday morning, a gray 2006 GMC Sierra struck a construction worker on Interstate 575 South, just before the Towne Lake Parkway exit in Woodstock, and fled the scene. I-575 Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested

The suspect in this morning's hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575 has been arrested, the spokeswoman for the Woodstock Police Department said this afternoon. Kenneth Gonzalez, 53, of Canton was captured at 1:50 p.m. in Cobb County, just four hours after a gray 2006 GMC Sierra struck a construction worker and fled the scene, spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said. The unidentified construction worker is being treated at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he is listed in critical condition. Police are looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with license plate No. BNQ 3491 in connection with this morning's hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575, Woodstock Police Department spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said. The Sierra will have passenger side damage and a missing side mirror, she said. Duncan said she did not have an update on the condition of the construction worker who was injured in the hit-and-run, which occurred at 9:30 a.m., not at 10:10 a.m. as Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mohamed Arafa told Canton-Sixes Patch this morning.
