Heightened Police Presence A New Normal At Area Schools

Increased police presence at local schools will become part of everyday operations in wake of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy.

Despite the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre occurring a month ago, area school districts aren't quite ready to return to a sense of normalcy. Cherokee Schools Chief Forms Safety Committee

The standing School Safety and Security Ad Hoc Committee will consist of senior level district staff, parents, principals and law enforcement agency representatives.

Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo announced on Friday that he's established a School Safety and Security Ad Hoc Committee. The committee, he noted, will consist of parents, principals, upper-level district staff personnel and representatives from local law enforcement agencies. "This committee will meet regularly to assess current and emerging school safety initiatives, as well as determine the programmatic, operational and fiscal impact of the School District’s safety and security protocols and practices," Petruzielo said in his letter issued on Friday.
