Several Woodstock students were recognized during the school's annual Honors Day.
Several Woodstock natives receives academic accolades at Reinhardt University during its annual Honors Day program last week. Dr. David Gregory, associate professor of music, was honored with the Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty Mentor Award. This award is decided upon by Reinhardt's Student Government Association and recognizes the faculty member who best exemplifies the University's mission, who affects lives for the better, who integrates faith and learning and who educates the whole person. Jillian Nichols of Woodstock, a second-grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School, will be honored as one of Reinhardt University's 10 Under 10 next week.
A Reinhardt University graduate and Woodstock resident will be recognized for her passion for teaching and giving back to the community. Jillian Nichols, who lives in Woodstock, will be honored as one of the school's 10 Under 10 during its Talon Awards Gala on March 21. The gala will be held at Northside United Methodist Church in Buckhead. Reinhardt's 10 Under 10 each year recognizes 10 alumni during the last 10 years "who have been successful in business, the military, nonprofits, government, and/or the arts," according to the University. Several Woodstock students have earned academic recognitions and graduated from local and regional colleges and universities. Cornell University's Maria Morawa was placed on the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester while Charles Cumberland graduated from Armstorng Atlantic State University. The four-year college in Waleska has opened three new buildings.
Three more facilities have been added to Reinhardt University's campus inventory. Reinhardt University has dedicated a new 22,000-square-foot Athletic Field House, which features a 4,800-square-foot weight room, locker rooms, coaches offices, athletic training area, meeting and storage space, public restrooms, concession stand and an outdoor plaza and garden area. The University also opened the Hubbard Residence Hall, a suite-style setting that will accommodate 72 male students. The building, next to the Fincher Visual Arts Center overlooking the Falany Performing Arts Center and Lake Mullenix, will grow with the addition of a second 72-bed wing to open in fall 2013. Starting in May, theologians and scientists will hold weekly sessions to explore hot topics.
For many people, the two are like oil and water. They don’t mix. But is it necessary to make a choice between following religion or science? Does having faith in an all-powerful Creator mean rejecting science? Each Tuesday evening in May, representatives of Reinhardt University, Heritage Baptist Fellowship and Faith Presbyterian Church are inviting the public to join them in exploring the relationships of modern science and religion. A grant from the John Templeton Foundation Science and Ministry Initiative has enabled the institutions to plan a series of weekly discussions featuring scholars of science and religion. Woodstock-Towne Lake had 13 students recognized for their academic achievements.
Several local students were among the 126 students and one faculty member recognized at Reinhardt University's Honors Day on Sunday, April 22. The following Woodstock students were honored for the academic achievements: Walter Beck, assistant professor of business, was honored with the Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty Mentor Award. This award is decided upon by the Student Government Association. It recognizes the faculty member who best exemplifies the University mission, who affects lives for the better, who integrates faith and learning and who educates the whole person.
