Etowah 17, Lassiter 14 – In true nail-biter fashion, Etowah needed a goalline stop at its 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal late in the game to hold onto a 3-point victory Thursday over Lassiter, according to the Cherokee Tribune. The win settled matters cleanly in Region 5-AAAAA play. Lassiter finished at 3-3 and will enter the playoffs with the No. 4 seed from the region. Etowah finished at 4-2 and earned the No. 3 seed. (Video Link) River Ridge 48, North Murray 34 – The running game has been a strong point for River Ridge all season, and Friday’s game was no exception as sophomore E.J. Ellis carried the ball 20 times for 252 yards and six touchdowns, according to the Cherokee Tribune. Ellis wasn’t the only star that carried that ball. …

River Ridge (7-2, 1-0) at North Murray (0-9, 0-6) – River Ridge got back on track last week with a 39-point win over Social Circle. Since the Knights aren’t eligible for the playoffs, tonight’s contest at North Murray will be their final game of the season. The Mountaineers haven’t won a game all season. Walton (9-0, 5-0) at Woodstock (4-5, 1-4) – Woodstock has dropped its last four games in a row and scored just less than six points per game on average over that time. The Wolverines have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason play, so tonight they are only playing for a shot at an upset over Walton, the eighth-ranked team in the state. Woodstock and River Ridge play at home tonight while Etowah has the night off.
Lassiter (6-2, 2-2) at Woodstock (4-4, 1-3) – Woodstock has lost three in a row and has been blanked twice in that stretch. In fact, in all four Region 5-AAAAA games this season the Wolverines have scored just 20 total points. Woodstock (4-3, 1-2) at Etowah (4-4, 2-2) – When Woodstock and Etowah meet, in any sport, there’s no telling what might happen. Not only is this a cross-town rivalry, but it’s also a Region 5-AAAAA rivalry and the schools sit just two miles apart off the same street. The Eagles were supposed to be a force in region play but injuries have taken a toll. If the Wolverines can manage a road win, they’ll leapfrog Etowah in the standings and sit in a strong spot to grab the final playoff spot in the region. Lanier (2-1) at River Ridge (6-1) – River Ridge is back on track with consecutive wins after a hiccup on Sept. 30. The Knights have scored 40 or more points four times this season with a punishing ground attack. They’ll look to establish that…
