Heightened Police Presence A New Normal At Area Schools

Increased police presence at local schools will become part of everyday operations in wake of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy.

Despite the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre occurring a month ago, area school districts aren't quite ready to return to a sense of normalcy. School districts continue to implement forms of heightened security in the tragedy's aftermath. Both Bartow County Schools and Cartersville City schools continued with its increased police presence on their campuses when their second semester got underway earlier this week.  Cartersville Police Capt. CT School Shooting: Could It Happen Here?

Police say a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., killed 27 people, including 20 children. See what the Cherokee County School District has in place to prevent such tragedies.

  A shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning left 27 people dead, including 20 children and six adults according to news reports.  The Associated Press is reporting law enforcement officials have identified the shooter as Adam Lanza, 20. Lanza's mother taught kindergarten at the school and he allegedly shot and killed her before fatally shooting others.  Newtown Patch reported that the gunman visited his family home in New Jersey before driving to the school. Lanza died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Check Newtown Patch for updates in the school shooting throughout the day. Wow Monty.... I was just commenting on the article. In MY opinion CCSD is not protecting the children OR even the parents that volunteer their time at the school. How can CCSD tell parents there are procedures in place that require ALL exterior doors to be locked, when in FACT the doors are NOT locked? Don't give parents/children false sense of security when there isn't anything being done to …   more ›
