'Art Is Expression, Not Occupation'

A Colombian-born local artist who works at The Funky Paintbrush says he does not want his art to become his career.

Local artist Julian Orjuela was born in Bogota, Colombia, in 1992 and has been inspired by his artistic parents ever since. His father, a graphic designer, and mother, a fashion designer, moved the family to the United States because of the economic hardships they faced in Colombia. “We moved here because of the economic strain in Colombia and for the opportunity to grow here, both with my education and my future,” Orjuela said. Saying that he has always been creative, Orjuela acknowledges the impact his parents have made on his artistic side. Though they never taught him how to paint or draw, Orjuela said his parents always expressed their interest in art, causing him to feel a driving force to prove himself. This driving force has …

Funky Paintbrush Teacher Helps Others Grow

Caitlin Lemoine, future Kennesaw State University student and artist for The Funky Paintbrush, wants others to see and recreate the beauty around them.

Caitlin LeMoine is one of those artists who has seemingly always been drawing. She received a graphics tablet for her computer at age 11 and says she became increasingly serious about art. “My parents bought me a drawing tablet and for about three years I was glued to my laptop drawing cartoons," LeMoine said, who plans to attend Kennesaw State University this fall. "I think I grew most as an artist and as a person in those three years." Self-taught until about ninth grade, LeMoine then began taking art classes both in and out of school. She honed her skills and surrounded herself with other artists who opened her eyes to new ways to approach art. “I owe a lot of my artistic enthusiasm to my family and friends who always pushed me to …

Am very disappointed with Funky Paintbrush. We purchased 2 groupons for our kids to go to their Kiddie Camp. My 7 and 8 year old went this morning and the teacher was clearly not into kids... so why even have a Kiddie Camp. She was impatient, yelling, visibly frustrated and not trying to hide it at all.
