GDOT To Patch Asphalt on Towne Lake Ramps to I-575

The Georgia Department of Transportation's maintenance crews will perform the work next week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will perform maintenance work on the Towne Lake Parkway entrance ramps to I-575 next week. Crews will be repairing the deteriorating asphalt spots on the Towne Lake Parkway entrance ramps Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 9 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. It is GDOT's policy to repair and maintain Georgia interstates and state highways using methods such as deep patching, proper equipment and skilled and dedicated employees.  "Prompt repair of small asphalt pavement defects has significant impacts on reducing maintenance costs," according to a press release from GDOT. Two Sustain "Non-Life Threatening" Injuries in I-575 Accident

Both individuals were injured in an accident on I-575 northbound at Towne Lake Parkway that stalled traffic for nearly four hours.

Two people sustained what Woodstock public safety officials called "non-life threatening injuries" in an accident that left northbound traffic on Interstate 575 at Towne Lake Parkway at a standstill for nearly four hours. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the accident involving an 18-wheeler and a box truck was first reported to the agency at approximately 5:20 a.m. Brittany Duncan, spokesperson for the Woodstock Police Department, said preliminary clues indicate the box truck was possibly stalled on the side of the highway when it was hit by the 18-wheeler.  "However, at this time, the accident is currently under investigation," she added. UPDATE: Accident on I-575 at Towne Lake Has Been Cleared

An accident involving human waste has been cleared four hours after the accident was reported, but motorists should expect some delays.

UPDATE at 9:22 a.m.: after a four-hour delay, the accident has been cleared and all lanes are now open.  An accident involving human waste has shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 575 at Towne Lake Parkway.  According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the accident involving an overturned dump truck was first reported to the agency at approximately 5:20 a.m. Crews with the city of Woodstock are currently working to clean up the waste and do not have an estimate as to when the clean up will be complete.  Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch reader Jennifer Oglesby Blackwell noted the accident "looks very, very bad." Water Main Repair To Close Two Lanes on Towne Lake Parkway

The city of Woodstock needs to repair a water leak on Towne Lake Parkway in front of Waffle House.

Two lanes along Towne Lake Parkway will be closed Monday while city crews repair a water main leak in front of Waffle House.  The city will close the eastbound right turn lane to access the Waffle House and Cherokee County Tax Commissioner's Office and the westbound far right lane at the intersection of Towne Lake Parkway and Woodstock Parkway at 9:30 a.m. Monday to repair a water main leak in front of the restaurant. The work should be completed by 5 p.m. Monday evening. The city is asking motorists to expect delays and to use caution while driving in the area. Police Announce Hit-and-Run Charges

Friday, the injured construction worker was at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he was listed in critical condition.

Charges have been announced in the hit-and-run that injured a construction worker on Friday. Kenneth Gonzalez of Canton, the suspect in the hit-and-run, will face charges of reckless driving, aggravated battery, failure to report accident with injuries, failure to report accident with property damage, hit-and-run, and failure to maintain lane, Woodstock Police Department spokeswoman Brittany Duncan wrote in a brief email to Canton-Sixes Patch on Sunday. Friday morning, a gray 2006 GMC Sierra struck a construction worker on Interstate 575 South, just before the Towne Lake Parkway exit in Woodstock, and fled the scene. I-575 Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested

Kenneth Gonzalez, 53, of Canton was captured at 1:50 p.m. in Cobb County.

The suspect in this morning's hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575 has been arrested, the spokeswoman for the Woodstock Police Department said this afternoon. Kenneth Gonzalez, 53, of Canton was captured at 1:50 p.m. in Cobb County, just four hours after a gray 2006 GMC Sierra struck a construction worker and fled the scene, spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said. The unidentified construction worker is being treated at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he is listed in critical condition. Police are looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with license plate No. BNQ 3491 in connection with this morning's hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575, Woodstock Police Department spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said. The Sierra will have passenger side damage and a missing side mirror, she said. Duncan said she did not have an update on the condition of the construction worker who was injured in the hit-and-run, which occurred at 9:30 a.m., not at 10:10 a.m. as Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mohamed Arafa told Canton-Sixes Patch this morning.
