Cherokee Unemployment Rate at 6.4 Percent

The county's unemployment rate remains lowest in 10-county Atlanta region.

Cherokee County's preliminary unemployment rate for November fell slightly to 6.4 percent, the lowest in the 10-county metro Atlanta region. The rate is down from the October rate of 6.5 percent and 7.3 percent in November 2011, according to figures released by the Georgia Department of Labor.  Cherokee's labor force rose slightly to 114,906 last month from 114,634 in October. November's labor force is also higher than November 2011 figure of 112,948. Cherokee's unemployment rate is clocked in lower than metro Atlanta's November unemployment rate of 8.0 percent. Cherokee Milestone: 100,000 Employed

The unemployment rate for the county fell to 7.7 percent in November.

Cherokee County passed a milestone in November: More than 100,000 county residents have jobs. An additional 980 Cherokee residents were working at the end of November compared with the end of October, according to preliminary figures the Georgia Department of Labor released Thursday. That means 100,380 of the 108,770 people in the county’s workforce are employed. It also means the county’s unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent in November from 8.4 percent in October and 8.7 percent in September and from 8.8 percent in November 2010. Cherokee County’s good job news matched the improvement for the official metro Atlanta area, where the November rate was 9.2 percent, down from 9.9 percent in October and 10.2 percent in September and 10.3 …
