River Park Home Damaged In Fire

No one was injured in the blaze.

A home in the River Park subdivision was damaged in a late Monday morning fire, according to a press release from the Woodstock Fire Department.  First responders with the Woodstock Fire Department and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to 403 Chatooga Lane after Cherokee County E-911 received a call for service around 11:15 a.m.  The homeowner, who was not at home when the fire started, returned home to discover the fire blazing in its utility room. Fire fighters were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the home, but home suffered smoke damage was located throughout the home.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No One Injured in Woodstock House Fire

Both Woodstock and Cherokee County fire personnel responded to the scene.

No one was injured in a late Monday morning house fire in Woodstock. The Woodstock Fire Department and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call at 11:42 a.m. of a home on fire at 322 Santa Anita Avenue in the Brookshire subdivision. Both departments arrived on the scene and were greeted by exterior flames coming from the home. Firefighters from both agencies were able to extinguish the fire and damage was limited to only one side of the home. Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Jimmy Eley said the fire started in a compost bin next to the house. Police, Firefighters of the Year Honored

American Legion Post 316 also celebrated its 93rd birthday last week.

American Legion Post 316 celebrated the American Legion's 93rd birthday and Special Awards Program honoring members from the Woodstock Police Department and Woodstock Fire Department. The Police and Firefighters of the Year were recognized at Magnolia Hall on March 15.   The following police officers and firefighters were honored:  Woodstock Police Supervisor of the Year—Lt. Driver Airlifted from I-575

I-575 was shut down both ways for 30 minutes because of an accident this morning.

Tim Cavender, spokesman for the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, released the following statement regarding the accident on I-575 this morning: Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle accident this morning at approximately 9 a.m. on I-575 just before the Towne Lake exit. Early reports indicated that a white Ford Excursion, traveling southbound, left the highway, flipped over multiple times and landed on top of a guardrail facing north on the northbound side of traffic. The female driver of the Excursion had severe head trauma and a possible dislocated elbow and was life-flighted by helicopter to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Fire Damages Towne Lake Home

No one was injured in the early morning fire in the Towne Lake Hills South subdivision.

A Towne Lake home was damaged in an early morning fire. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire and Rescue responded to the call just after 12:30 a.m. to find the two-story house at 302 Providence Point in the Towne Lake Hills South subdivision with heavy internal smoke and fire damage, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for the Cherokee Fire and EMS. “First reports coming into Cherokee County 911 indicated that the basement was on fire,” Cavender said. “A neighbor also advised that the occupants of the house were out and everyone was safe.” Cavender said the American Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Plant a Tree for Arbor Day

Pick a free seedling from various locations around Woodstock this Friday.

Woodstock is celebrating Arbor Day by giving away 750 seedlings to residents and planting trees in dedication of city employees. City Clerk Rhonda Pezzello, Fire Marshall and Assistant Fire Chief Jimmy Eley and Lt. Tim Smith of the Woodstock Fire Department will be recognized for their 20 years of service to the city by having three trees planted in the spring in their honor. Dogwood, Crape Myrtle, Red Maple and Southern Magnolia seedlings will be available on a first come, first serve basis at the City Hall Annex, Magnolia Hall, William G. Long Senior Center and the Deans Store this Friday. A booklet containing tree care information such as caring for and planting trees, pruning existing trees and current water restrictions will be …

Alta Ridgewalk Sees Morning Fire

A resident was transported to the hospital with minor burns after attempting to put out the fire.

The Woodstock Fire Department responded to a call at the Alta Ridgewalk Apartments around 8:20 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire had been contained by the sprinklers in the ground-floor apartment. A firefighter entering the building said there appeared to be minimal damage in the apartment where the fire had originated, but the water damage had spread to the surrounding apartments. A middle-aged man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with minor burns to his nose, mouth, left leg and forearm after he attempted to put out the fire in his kitchen, but the grease splashed on him, said Fire Chief Dave Soumas. Most residents were able to return to their apartments within the hour.

Woman Entrapped in Highway 92 Accident

Both drivers in the two-car accident were transported to Marietta's Kennestone Hospital.

A woman was transported to the hospital after she was removed from her vehicle in a two-car accident at the intersection of Woodstock Square Avenue and Highway 92 this morning. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire Department responded to the accident at approximately 9:45 a.m. to find a burgundy Mazda automobile and a black Ford Bronco at the scene, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for the Cherokee Fire and EMS. Cavender said the female, whom appeared to be in her 50s, was entrapped in the Mazda and transported to Marietta’s Kennestone Hospital with unknown injuries after she was extricated. The male driver of the Bronco, whom appeared to be in his early 20s, was also transported to Kennestone complaining of injuries …

Passer-by Removes Entrapped Driver

One lane of I-575 northbound was blocked in the single car accident this morning.

A 63-year-old female was removed from her overturned vehicle by a passer-by this morning in a single vehicle accident on I-575. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire Department responded to I-575 northbound, just north of Highway 92 to find a silver Nissan Pathfinder on its side blocking a lane of traffic at approximately 10:45 a.m., said Tim Cavender, spokesman of the Cherokee County Fire and EMS. The driver was treated on the scene and refused to be transported to an area hospital, Cavender said. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
