A Cherokee County schools internship program teaches students about the law enforcement profession.
A initiative to introduce students at three Woodstock high schools to a career in law enforcement is gaining traction. After nearly four years in existence, the Cherokee County School District Police Department internship program recently had one of its students take a step forward in the law enforcement field. Jack Fulenwider III, a former intern of the program who graduated from Etowah High School in 2010, recently graduated from the police academy class at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. Fulenwider has joined the Cherokee Sheriff's Office as a deputy and is assigned to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Another Etowah graduate and intern, Jonathan Kissee, is now enrolled at Kennesaw State University. …

Connor Frost is only one of 10 men from the entire country who will be on the team.
Woodstock High School alumni and University of Georgia freshman Connor Frost has been selected to the 2013 USA Orienteering National Junior Team. Orienteering is an internationally recognized sport that uses specially prepared orienteering maps and a compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain. Frost is one of only 10 young men from the entire nation selected for this prestigious team. The USA Orienteering National Junior Team will travel to the Czech Republic this summer to compete in the Junior World Orienteering Championships. The team receives specialized training from national coach, Erin Schirm, in this unique sport that is extremely popular in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada and …

Four Cherokee County high schools are receiving national accolades for their academic performances. Creekview High School, Etowah High School, Sequoyah High School andWoodstock High School have been named to the list of top U.S. high schools published by The Washington Post. The America's Most Challenging High Schools list ranks schools based on factors including the percentage of graduating seniors who take Advanced Placement (AP) tests. Only nine percent of the roughly 22,000 public high schools were named to the 2013 list. Among Georgia high schools, Creekview ranked 79, Etowah came in at 98, Sequoyah pulled a 105 and Woodstock ranked 113. The annual event sponsored by the Woodstock Wolverine Band Boosters brings in money for Woodstock High's marching band program.
UPDATED 10:10 am: Food and music will return to Woodstock High School in an effort to raise money for the Woodstock Wolverine Band Boosters. The annual Taste & Sound of Woodstock will be held at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday March 2 at Woodstock High School. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-10, which provides access to sample food from dozens of area restaurants. Local businesses will also be showcased and local musicians will perform throughout the event. The band booster organization supports the school's band program through fundraising and adult volunteers. Michael Woodard, this year's organizer of the fundraiser, said the club hopes to have between 300 and 400 people come out for this year's festivities. The club …

48 student athletes from Cherokee County were honored at a banquet at Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center.
Student athletes from Etowah, River Ridge and Woodstock high schools that signed letters of intent to play college sports were recognized during a ceremony at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center on Wednesday. In total, 48 Cherokee County School District (CCSD) student athletes were received at a brunch in honor of their commitments on National Signing Day, the earliest day high school seniors are allowed to make a commitment to play college football. Although football is the big draw on National Signing Day, the CCSD student athletes will be playing other sports such as baseball, wrestling, and track and field, among others. The family of Zachary Allen Rose, who attended Woodstock High School, is holding visitation in Canton today, and the funeral Saturday afternoon, but they need help to pay the costs.
The family of Zachary Allen Rose, a victim in a shooting in Alpharetta on Monday, Jan. 28, is struggling to cope with his death, and to find funds to pay for his funeral. "We just celebrated his birthday, he just turned 22," said his sister, Audrey Greene, as she worked on creating a video of her brother to be shown at the funeral home. "He had a lot of friends," she said. Zachary was visiting one of his friends, a former coworker, in Alpharetta when he was shot. His sister just found out that the suspect being sought by Alpharetta police was previously accused of a similar crime. He's left behind his family and those friends. Josh Roberts, 21, will be laid to rest on Wednesday.
Funeral services have been scheduled for the Woodstock man who was killed in an on-the-job accident last week near Canton. Services for Josh Anton Roberts, 21, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock. The family will receive friends between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight at Sosebee Funeral Home in Canton. Roberts died in a work place accident at Little River Marina on Jan. 23. Along with being employed at the marina, he was also a student at Kennesaw State University. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 2009. He loved running, working out, drawing and music, according to his obituary posted on Sosebee's website. Survivors include his mother Sharon Rodriguez; father Mervyn Roberts; …

A Woodstock High School student is behind bars after threatening a Columbine-type attack. Lake Reynolds, a 17-year-old junior, has been charged with making terroristic threats and remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on a $1,200 bond. Reynolds at 12:21 a.m. Friday posted "Plannin on pullin a colombine (sic) tomorrow guys.. Be prepared!" on his Twitter account (see the attached screen shot of the tweet). The reference is to the April 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado that killed 12 students, one teacher and injured dozens of others before the two gunmen killed themselves.
