Saturday will be packed with events Woodstock residents can do to recognize National Police Week. Along with its Hustle For Heroes 5K Run/Walk & Kid's Fun Run, the Woodstock Public Safety Foundation will hold its annual Police Memorial Service and Spring Festival. The run/walk is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Woodstock. The Kids’ Fun Run will follow at 8:30 a.m. Runners and walkers will receive both a t-shirt and a water bottle. An Acworth man is behind bars for allegedly robbing a bank in Woodstock on Tuesday. Woodstock police have arrested Nathan Alexander Dotson, 20, Tuesday evening, just hours after he allegedly committed the crime. He is in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and has been charged with robbery, Woodstock Police Department Spokesperson Brittany Duncan said Wednesday morning. He is being held with a $16,700 bond and also is on hold for Cobb County, Cherokee Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said. A man allegedly robbed Regions Bank at the corner of Highway 92 and Main Street around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The Woodstock Police Department is asking the public to help them identify a man suspected of robbing Regions Bank Tuesday morning. According to the Woodstock Police Department, officers responded to what's known as a hold-up alarm call at Regions Bank at around 9:10 a.m. Woodstock Police Spokesperson Brittany Duncan said bank employees told officers a man entered the bank and handed over to the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied with the request and the man left with an undisclosed amount of cash. "Officers are currently searching the area and following up on leads," she stated. The Woodstock Public Safety Foundation will venture into the world of sponsoring races to raise money for its causes. The Hustle For Heroes 5K Run/Walk & Kid's Fun Run is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday May 18 at First Baptist Church of Woodstock. The organization is sponsoring the event along with the Woodstock Fire and Police Department. The event will be held on the campus of the church and will benefit the foundation's programs such as Shop with a Hero, Emergency Services Assistance, Explorer Unit and several other programs. Registration is $25 for the 5K Run/Walk, $10 for the kids' fun run and $10 and $15 for fire, police and EMT personnel participating in the 5K run/walk. American Legion Post 316 of south Cherokee County recently recognized Woodstock Fire and Police public servants during the post's 94th birthday celebration.
Woodstock Fire and Police Department employees were honored on Thursday for their service to the community by Commander Irma Martin and American Legion Post 316. Honored were: Also honored were Boy Scouts William Stepat and Benjamin McKenzie for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Time is winding down for residents to apply for the Spring 2013 Woodstock Citizens' Public Safety Academy. Thursday is the deadline to apply to participate in the free sessions, which will be hosted as a partnership between the Woodstock Police and Fire Departments. The sessions will be held every Thursday between March 28 and June 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magnolia Hall (formerly the Woodstock Community Center). The academy offers a series of classes that will educate residents on several key aspects of both agencies.
