Synovus Bank plans to consolidate two of its bank divisions – Bank of North Georgia and the Bank of Coweta in Newnan. Synovus, a Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank, today announced in a news releaste that it expects the consolidation to be completed early next year. Woodstock area residents won't notice much change at the local branch, as the combined division will use the Bank of North Georgia trade name. The newly expanded Bank of North Georgia division will have a total of 41 branches in 16 counties. Don Howard will continue in his role as chairman of Bank of North Georgia and Synovus Regional CEO. Employees of Bank of North Georgia, headquartered in Alpharetta, and Bank of Coweta volunteered more than 7,457 hours to 261 organizations in the local communities in whichy they do business. The time they've spent is a contribution valued at $159,282, using the industry standard of $21.36 per hour. According to Don Howard, Synovus Regional CEO in the Atlanta market, "The 500 or more team members at Bank of North Georgia and Bank of Coweta have a genuine interest in reaching out to those in need within our communities and actively serve on non-profit and civic organization boards and committees as well as participate in other fundraising initiatives." A Bank of North Georgia error affected approximately 120 city of Canton employees. City manager Scott Wood said "it ain't a big deal" and the bank immediately resolved the issue.
