The former state Senator will earn $150,000 as executive producer, community jobs program with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Chip Rogers will make more than Gov. Nathan Deal and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle each make in their public jobs when the former state Senator starts his new job Tuesday earning $150,000. The AJC reports that he'll be the seventh executive at Georgia Public Broadcasting earning six-figures annually, despite a rather pedestrian title: Executive producer, community jobs program. The position is paid solely through state taxpayers’ money. Rogers quit the state Senate less than a month after his re-election to his seat to take the position with GPB, which he said "is like a dream come true." Attorney Bill Fincher of Canton has ended his short bid for the Georgia House District 21 seat.
A second candidate for the Georgia House District 21 seat has cut short his bid to become Cherokee County's newest elected official. Bill Fincher, who serves as an assistant district attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, has dropped out of the race to replace State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs), Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda confirmed this morning. Jerguson resigned the seat he was reapportion into and subsequently won in the Nov. 6 general election to seek the vacant Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which also became vacant after former Woodstock Senator Chip Rogers abruptly resigned. Four candidates will be on the Jan. 8 ballot.
The qualifying period for candidates to enter the House District 21 special election on Jan. 8, 2013 ended at noon Wednesday with six people successfully qualifying. Two additional candidates qualified after the initial list was published on Dec. 10-independent international account director Eduardo Correia and Republican businessman Kenneth Ashley Mimbs. Both men are from the Canton area. Next month's election is required because the former holder of the seat, Rep. Sean Jerguson, has left the State House of Representatives in order to run for the State Senate seat vacated by Chip Rogers earlier this month. Two candidates have already dropped out of the race. Two more candidates qualified today to run in the Jan. 8, 2013, special election to fill two Georgia General Assembly seats. State Rep. Sean Jerguson qualified today to formally start campaigning for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which is now vacant due to the abrupt resignation of former Senator Chip Rogers. His challenger, Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Brandon Beach, qualified for the seat yesterday. Eduardo Correia, who lives in Hickory Flat, also qualified to run for the Georgia House District 21 seat, which Jerguson had to resign from in order to run for the senate. Early voting in the Jan. 8, 2013 special election to fill the state House District 21 and Senate District 21 seats will begin next week. Voting will get underway from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17-21 at the Stone Elections Building in downtown Canton. Early voting will continue Dec. 27-28, on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2-4, 2013, during those same hours. No early voting on Saturdays will be scheduled. The office will be closed Dec. 24-26 and on Jan. 1 for the holidays. The deadline to register to vote in the election is at the close of business on Friday. The seat was vacated by Sean Jerguson on Dec. 5 so that he could run for the Senate seat of former Sen. Chip Rogers, who has retired from politics to persue a career in public broadcasting. A special election will be held on Jan. 8, 2013, to choose the next representative for House District 21, which includes Holly Springs and parts of Canton and Woodstock.
