Will We Be Better Off Because of This Election?

Share your thoughts on the matter in our Question of the Week comment section below.

Months of campaigning, complaining and one-upping have lead us to this week during which we choose a President to carry us through the next four years. But, some have questioned the ability of either side to clean up what's been deemed "a mess." What do you think? Are the issues more likely to be resolved by one party or the other? Will the American people fair better over the next four years because of this election?

You do realize George that the governments role is to protect the country not financially support the citizens, right? If a woman wants to be that active shall we say (to be kind) she should be able to afford her own contraceptives and if not don't participate. Government should have no place in our personal lives particularly paying for our extra curricular activities!   more ›

Question of the Week: Do Presidential Debates Matter?

Do you expect upcoming Presidential and Vice Presidential debates to sway your vote?

The consensus after last week's Presidential debate was that Republican candidate Mitt Romney won the debate with President Barack Obama. But does that really matter? A recent article in The Washington Post states that analysts differ on the question. Some point to debates with John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, which Kennedy clearly won on style and which may have moved the close election in his favor. Others say a debate win is only a temporary victory. What do you think?  This week, Vice Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Paul Ryan will take on each other on Thursday at 9 p.m. at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Obama and Romney will meet again on Oct. 16 and 22. Will you be watching?

County Continues HOST Information Push

The proposed one-percent sales tax will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Cherokee County leaders continue the push out information on a proposed one-percent sales tax voters will consider on Nov. 6. County Commission Chairman Buzz Ahrens participated in two forums with Cherokee Bank and Cherokee Tribune to inform voters about the proposal. Ahrens is also making the rounds to make presentations during city council meetings. Ahrens presented his measure to Woodstock leaders on Monday and will be at the Ball Ground City Council meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposal. The chairman noted he felt the forums "have done their jobs" and most participants asked good questions. One of the major hurdles is informing voters that the tax is not "asking for a new single dollar."  Ahrens said the proposal simply …

Local School Districts Taken to Court Over Charter Schools

The five plaintiffs want a Fulton Superior Court judge to order all Georgia school districts to stop using public funds and resources to campaign against the state charter school amendment.

Fulton and Gwinnett County school districts have been sued by a group of Georgia taxpayers who accuse them of using taxpayers' funds and resources to campaign against the state charter schools amendment that is on the General Election ballot, WABE's Michelle Wirth reported online and on air late Monday afternoon. The five plaintiffs, who are seeking class action status to represent all Georgia taxpayers, want an injunction barring the defendants to continue engaging in political activity in opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment on charter schools authorized by the Georgia General Assembly with HR 1162.
