The company is holding off on a proposal to build a stand alone emergency department in the city limits.
WellStar Health System has put off plans to expand into Holly Springs. The company is not pursuing a proposal to build a free-standing emergency department on 62 acres on the southwest corner of Sixes Road and I-575. WellStar last month filed a letter of intent with Georgia Department of Community Health to build the proposed $21 million off-site emergency center, but did not proceed with filing a Certificate of Need review. The CON has to be filed 30 days after a letter of intent is filed with the department. WellStar Spokesperson Keith Bowermaster said there's "no precedent" in Georgia for a free-standing emergency department to get the CON stamp of approval. The Marietta-based health care system is eyeing the possibility of opening an off-site emergency center on Sixes Road near I-575.
WellStar Health System continues to explore its options to expand in Cherokee County. The company has filed a letter intent with the Georgia Department of Community Health to build a $21 million off-site emergency center on Sixes Road at Interstate 575. WellStar Spokesperson Keith Bowermaster said the company submitted a letter of intent for a "free standing emergency department" at the location, which is situated on 62 acres on the southwest corner of Sixes Road and I-575. The initial phase would include a facility between 100,000 to 120,000 square feet. Bowermaster said noted there's no set timetable for construction. Voters in the Georgia House District 21 will choose between Republicans Scot Turner and Brian Laurens in the Feb. 5 run off election.
Today is the start of the last week in which voters who reside in Georgia House District 21 can cast ballots ahead of the Feb. 5 run-off election. Voters who reside in the district, which encompasses Holly Springs, portions of BridgeMill, south Canton and parts of southeast Cherokee, can cast ballots between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Albert L. Stone Elections Building at 400 East Main Street in Canton. Early voting in the race has been "extremely slow" so far, Cherokee Elections Supervisor Janet Munda told Patch last week. Munda also told the Cherokee Tribune that as of Friday, 68 people have voted early while 72 people have requested ballots by mail. No voting will be held on Monday Feb. 4, and voters in the …
