U.S. Postal Service to Drop Saturday Mail in August

Fox News reports the move will save about $2 billion and will not affect package delivery.

The U.S. Postal Service will announce the end of Saturday mail delivery this morning, according to Fox News. "What's being reported is one of those things that we are looking at as another possible cost-cutting measure," said Michael Miles, spokesperson for the Atlanta District of the USPS. "So for now it's part of a study that we are looking at over the next five years to reduce our costs." The change only applies to first-class mail deliveries. Packages, mail-ordered prescriptions, priority and express mail will still be delivered on Saturdays.  Saturday mail delivery will end in August. The move, which does not affect package delivery, is expected to save $2 billion annually, the report indicated.
