ReplySounds like you answered your own question when you wrote "Rogers received many accolades from Republicans in the district" for serving as chair. I'm not a republican, but sounds like the local party achieved its purpose choosing Chip. I'm happy for them.

ReplyMy answer to your specific question is; the Georgia legislature should allow the local school district to decide if the school district should approve arming teachers and or principals. What is 'right' for Cherokee County may not be 'right' for Early County, or Carrollton City schools. The local school board is ultimately responsible - not the feds, not the State; so allow the local board to make its decision as best to protect the children in its charge.

Are you saying cleaning at night is bad or looking for solutions to the problem by possibly privatizing the work is a bad idea?

ReplyMr.Woodworth - See the link for the June 28, 2012 CAFR report on page 9: http://www.cherokeega.com/departments/finance/uploads/File/CAFR_INFO/Cherokee_County_2011_Final_CAFR_06.28.2012.pdf The chart shows 18+% of jobs are govt. The annual audit is posted on the Board of Commissioner's transparency page each year and is a great barometer to actually measure why we struggle as a tax base.

Frank - You framed the argument of passage of HB 386 as republican, I pointed out democrats also voted for HB 386 by stating correctly HB 386 was a bi-partisan passed bill and not just a republican bill. It is false to say one party when both parties passed HB 386.
I agree HB 386 is a tax increase - you & I do NOT disagree on that point. I define outlandish tax increases to include "revenue neutral" that our republican BOC voted in July, and the previous tax increases heaped on us by both our BOC and BOE. I also believe HOST and TSPLOST fell into the category of outlandish tax increases and I was glad to see the democrats and republican voters recognized the tax increases for what they were - and voted both down.

Frank Jones - Two notes to your note; 1 - HB 386 was a bi-partisan vote. More republicans voted against HB 386 than democrats in the Georgia House. 2 - HOST was defeated by a bi-partisan effort in a county that is overwhelmingly republican.
The reason the legislative delegation is CURRENTLY republican in Cherokee County is because the democrats have yet to find candidates that did not propose even more outlandish tax increases as their platform - as proof read your party's County website.

ReplyWhy not use ESPLOST to purchase biometric gun safes to place in a secured area, used police pistols, ammo and 'initial training'?

Mr. Thompson - You want to see huge salaries paid for by your tax dollars that DWARFS the Govs. salary? Tune into AdvancEd, the school accreditation non-profit. CEO Mark Elgart made in excess of $345,000 a year plus deferred $1,500,000 in compensation and retirement http://atlantaunfiltered.com/2011/04/11/mark-elgart-accreditation-boogeyman-355024/ That is even better than we pay US House members or the President. Tax records show board members made over $150,000 each in 2009. Pretty good pay from the taxpayers.

Ga. Moderate - The Sheriff's statement is an explanation of the oath he took when he assumed office and the limits of power, plus his personal opinion supporting the 2nd Amendment. The 1st Amendment allows him to express his opinion on the 2nd Amendment, but his oath bounds him to the laws of Georgia. Georgia Sheriffs are NOT Federals Marshals and are not given Federal jurisdiction to enforce Federal laws. In fact, the Holder DOJ is making that very argument regarding arresting of illegal immigrants by Georgia sheriffs.
The premise of the article started with falsely stating the Sheriff opposed President Executive Orders. The White House has NOT issued an Executive Order, but something new called an "Executive Action". Again, understand there is a difference between a Presidential Executive Order and the newly created term "Executive Action" which has now morphed into 3 memorandums "on advice of counsel". The "Executive Actions" have never been tested in court. Executive Orders have with the courts ruling the President may give direction to the FEDERAL departments reporting to the President as long as the Executive Orders do not trample the laws. History is full of Executive Orders being overturned in Federal Courts because the EO was contrary to the laws. To me it is interesting that this President has chosen NOT to issue Executive Orders.

This is good news. Is there a district written plan to increase 4 year graduation rates above the 72.65% similar to the written plan to build schools? Has the supt. put in place an ad hoc committee to improve graduation rates? 72.65% in 4 years is very good news, and my questions should not miss that point, but what is the plan to do better?
