Woodstock Public Safety Academy Now Accepting Applications

The city is now accepting application for the public safety academy, which is set to start on Feb. 27.

Residents who live or work in the city of Woodstock are asked to sign up for the spring 2014 session of the Citizens Public Safety Academy.

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications for the series of courses, which are designed to inform residents about the various aspects of the police and Woodstock Fire Department.

The spring session is set to start on Feb. 27.

The academy is designed to "strengthen the relationship between the citizens and the Woodstock Police and Fire Departments, as well as spotlight the responsibilities of public safety personnel and the inherent risks associated with the professions," according to a press release.

The academy featured several courses that educated students on various aspects of both departments. It also included a brief overview of the Cherokee County School Police Department and tours of the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and 911 operations.

Some classes that will be offered include domestic violence response, criminal investigation procedures, crime prevention, SWAT presentation, fire safety and fire prevention.

Anyone who resides or works in Woodstock or has expressed an interest in the city can apply for the academy. Participants must be at least 19 years old and submit to a background check before they can be accepted. 

Applications are attached to the article, available online at www.woodstockga.gov/police/cpa or in person at the Woodstock Police Department, located at 12453 Highway 92.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 25.
